Restarting at same photo after a break

I'm curious if it's just my installation or if everyone sees the same behaviour when reopening a catalog after closing C1 and restarting.

Each time I restart C1 it seems to open with a randomly selected image from some distant point in a previous edit session.  I have catalogs with 1000's of images and if I cull/edit up to image 500 for example, then close C1 and reopen it the next day, it may restart with photo 327 selected.  There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason as to which image is selected.  It would make sense to me that the state of the application, including which photo was last edited/selected, would be saved when normally exiting from the program. This never seems to be the case though.
Does everyone else have the same issue?  If not, is there some way that I'm missing, that will make C1 save my spot when exiting and restart at the same point?

    What version of C1 are you running? I'm still on 16.3.8.23 and on both of my machines, C1 continues to do as it has for at least years: it remembers the last image viewed in each collection and goes to it when I select the collection. That applies for Recents, Albums, and so on.

    I'm on the latest version 16.4.5.xxxx but this behaviour has been present in the last couple versions for me.
    I just opened C1 again now and it started up with a photo I had exported 2 or 3 days ago (on of the last photos in the catalog) instead of the last photo I viewed (I'm about halfway through culling 5000 photos in the catalog).

    Do you have XMP sidecar syncing enabled?  I have it turned off.  Wondering if that might influence things.
