I haven't tried using Match Look on the same image, and I'm not sure what I would expect in that case.

Same here, images with applied look are so much off the reference that it must be some bug or something.

    Sven,

I haven't seen a detailed description of how the 'Match look' capability works or tried it so, what follows is speculation on my part.

As C1 are exploiting AI at the moment, I suspect the capability is enabled by an AI analysis of your Reference image, the result is a model that describes key characteristics such as exposure, colour tones etc.  This model would then be used to influence the actual tool changes required for each selected recipient image to achieve an approximation or similar look to the Reference.  If this is how it's working then it may be more helpful to think of it as 'Approximate look'.  I'd guess that the capability isn't aware - which is reasonable - that your images are actually the same.

Perhaps if you gave a human two clones of the same images, one being a processed Reference and the other an unprocessed clone and asked them to make the second image look the same as the Reference I'd bet the result wouldn't be identical to the Reference.  Depending on the person's skill/interpretation/artistic vision it might be very close tho.

So, I wouldn't like to say there is something not working with this new C1 capability.  It will be doing the best it can using whatever constraints it has.

    Just my thoughts...

    Hey,

on my pictures, it sometimes works great, and sometimes it's totally off.

I guess, they have still to improve that to get more consistency.

Match Look is not working, not even close. Released too early, hopefully this will be fixed in future updates.

    Hi Marcus Nilsson

Some users are finding that it works very well. In my experience so far it is a good tool in some situations but not in others.

Can you share examples of when it isn't working for you?

This has to be a bug ... all I get is some underexposed, green tinted result. Even when using a B&W image as a reference!

Same here. Result are pretty bad.

Raid Iskandar which type of photography are you testing Match Look to ?

Some portrait and street work. I'll be able to experiment more in a couple of hours ... so far though it's very bad. I've been mostly using my own color graded frames exported from Davinci Resolve ... but also a diverse collection of references from other people's work. The results, so far, have always been an underexposed, muddy mess.

Have you tried turning some of the options off? (See screenshot.)

    Yup, sure.

Indeed. It works for me about 30-50% of the time.

So in the end, I decided to stay on 16.4.

The feature could be great, the idea is innovative, but to my mind the implementation is not yet reliable.

    At least for me.

I think it very much depends on the images in question. Following on from my last reply, here is the result from using the image I showed as the reference.

The dragonfly top left is the reference. The lizard top right is before using Match Look. The lizard lower left is the same image after using Match Look (with all the options checked). I think it fairly convincingly makes it look as if both subjects were shot in similar warm light. But I agree that for some other images, it really isn't the right tool for the job.

Absolutely. I saw plenty of videos online and decided to upgrade.
That's why I was so shocked after my initial tests ... this just cannot be right. I'll try and share some frames later.
To be clear, I do not expect a one click color grading solution.

Okay ... as suspected, it was some kind of bug.

I restarted und updated my system, now it is working as advertised.
