You can run it if it works. You may find that it is OK, or you may not. There may be some things that don't work - for example sometimes tethering is problematic when other things are OK. (Not that I asm saying that tethering is problematic using Monterey with this version - that's just an example of the kind of thing that can happen with an unsupported version of MacOS, and it can depend on other factors, which vary from one user to another.)

Interesting, C1 has not tested 16.5 on Monterey and cannot tell its paying customers if it will work, what will not work, but allows installation on Monterey. In short, it is up to us to find out if it works on Monterrey, and what features may not work.

C1 seems to have also made the arbitrary, but not uncommon decision, to only support the latest 3 releases of macOS. My main editing computer has gone through 6 to 8 operating system updates in 10 years, it still works fine. The only reason to upgrade is software companies deciding to make it artificially obsolete. Assuming, it gets replaced with an equivalent model, a Mac Studio, with yearly releases and companies like C1 only supporting the last 3 versions of macOS, we could be looking at obsolescence in less than 10 years. Not sure how sustainable economically and environmentally this is.

I agree, it is not cheap to upgrade a mac workstation and does not make much sense if it is still working fine. I have a macpro 6.1 2013 and a macbook pro 2017 and OS updates are making them obsolete even if they works great

I am currently running the 16.3.8 version of capture one pro (not on a subscription) on a MAC 6.1 (trashcan) with Montery installed. This obvioulsy works fine.

I tried and installed the BETA version of the 16.5 version of C1 and this same MAC and worked fine as well. Now I installed a 30 days trail version of 16.5.0 and it works fine.

I intend to buy a new MAC (possiblly the Studio M2 max with 64 gb ) and never update the OS or C1 again.
Most updates on MacOS I don't need.

I think nobody likes the way C1 is dealing with their subsription/update plans and pushing people to constantly update their stuff. Time will learn. They ignore the fact that most users of C1 are hobbiests and amateur (or side profession)
Nikon, Leica, Canon and Fuji as well and they only survive becasue of this group of users/enthousiasts.

Greetings from a long time user of C1 and a photo enthousiast

Thank you André Hilkens, I will try installing C1 16.5 on my Monterey trash can. I have expressed my opinion in separate thread. I was thinking of replacing the trash can with a Mac Studio but the announcement of the new Mac Mini M4 has changed my thinking.

So far 16.5.0.29 is working fine on the trash can, i have also had a tethered shoot and so fa so good. I am with you about the new mini making the mac studio less relevant for photo editing and tether shoot

I first tested it with the beta release. Then I installed the 30 days demoversion. Once I saw that all worked fine I updated the final release. With respect to a new Mac I think I still will choose the Mac Studio M2 Max. Reason is that this is a matured unit. While the m4pro see very tempting I know that manufacturers still make changes in the first period. Also I think that heat might slow down the unit. Heat is, in general, not good for lifetime of electronic equipment. I am viewing reviews but most YouTubers don’t care so much and are only interested in clicks
