Capture One Upgrade from a perpetual license
Last year I upgraded my perpetual license from Capture One Pro and in May this was no longer valid for an upsdate.
This is just too violent for me and I'm already looking for altenatives.
In the past, the license was valid for at least one year. Now prices are rising, but performance is falling to the same extent. Although many simple things remain open, such as importing backgrounds from other images.

You are describing pixel editor features (importing background from other images). Capture One likely will never do that. I don't think LR Classic can do that. Photoshop and Affinity Photo are more suited to that kind of work.

Yes, of course and the pricing is also better than yours

Georg Ott - for a while now the deal with a perpetual licence has been that you get the version you pay for at the time, and you can use that forever (as long as you have a computer that will run it) without further payments. But it doesn't include upgrades to any later versions with new features (just minor bug fix updates until the next new version). However, your license is valid for ever.
The alternative is a subscription, where the deal is that you have to keep paying but you can always have the latest version. But your licence is no longer valid if you don't keep up the subscription.

Yes, I am a user of the first hour and I would just like to upgrade for my annual payments for another year, so it was once and unfortunately it is no longer.
After less than half a year, getting back in my pocket is just too much for me.George

Indeed. The price doubled / triple in a few years and the quality decreased.
However, for my work, C1 is still far far ahead from others. So I will keep using it with perpetual licence as long as possible. latest 16.6 does not work well for me and does not fix regression from 16.3 anyway.
Cheers

The perpetual upgrade cost has indeed quite a bit, but until a couple of years ago, "new major versions" came out about once/year. Since going to the 16.x naming, C1's decided that "major" update is a new "." version, and perpetual licenses get all of the "16.x." versions; as soon as "16.x+1" comes out, we're done, and these "new" versions come out about twice/year, effectively doubling the price perpetual users pay to keep current. Now...isn't that enough to get us all to move to subscriptions? I seriously doubt that this will change; I just hope that they stick with their stated intention to keep perpetual licenses. I agree with Nicolas Det: after extensive testing, I find that v16.6 doesn't improve my editing other than faster AI Masking (which isn't enough to justify the upgrade cost). I realize that I'm not in C1's target user group (I'm birds/wildlife/nature/museum exhibits; virtually no portrait/studio work), so I'm not surprised that new features don't really help me. And like Nicolas, I wish they'd attend to some of the long-standing requests/issues—and I also realize that most bug-fixes don't get users to upgrade...it's about new features.

100%
I am also doing others stuffs than C1 is getting specialised for: events, landscape, architecture.
While C1, for me, IS still faaarrrr ahead, the new stuffs were not appealing to me.
I have the impression they trained thei AI's models only for portraits. As the match look only works poorly for me (events). So for le, the perpetual license is just better: cheaper, safer, can wait for useful features without breaking the bank.

Just to avoid confusion for anyone reading this thread - the latest version right now is 16.5.1, not 16.6.

I have a perpetual license. I received a promo from Capture One that says,"Get your Loyalty savings code now. It's time to save 40% on the newest tools so you can create faster and more freely. You'll also get all of our updates. Log into your account-your voucher code will be waiting there," but the web site to make the purchase says that the discount is actually 20% for a perpetual license and 40% for an annual subscription: "Use code LOYALTY-......... and get 20% off when you buy a new Capture One Pro perpetual license or a total of 40% off an annual Capture One Pro, All in One or Capture One Studio subscription"
Although I do not do product, wedding or studio photography, I was tempted to upgrade for 40% off, but since 16.3.8 does what I need for the volume I shoot, it would be a much better savings to wait until other improvements I would like to see appear, or an update is essential for a future camera or MacOS version.

Indeed, I made a mistake. current version is 16.5..

Jerry C. 100%. 16.5 did not resolve some regression as well. waiting for 16.6 to still get the 20% loyalty discount on perpetual and then I will likely freeze my workflow.
Just hope they finish support for the OM1-2 until then.
