Tethering Issue Capture One Pro/Leica SL3 & SL2S

I have also experienced issues with tethered shooting using the Leica SL3, and certain problems remain unresolved.

The connection issue was resolved after granting full disk access in the computer's settings. However, a new issue has arisen during tethered shooting. A formatted memory card is recognized by Capture One, but after a certain number of shots and turning the camera off—for instance, to change the battery—the camera is no longer recognized. Replacing it with a new, empty, and formatted memory card resolves the issue.

This problem occurred not once or twice but three times during a long shoot, each time with the same behavior. Additionally, with each new card, I encountered an issue where I had to adjust the settings to specify where the images should be saved. Initially, the images were only written to the computer, with no backup on the memory card.

I am still trying to determine whether this issue lies with Leica or Capture One. I have received good support from Capture One's technical team for the problem you're currently experiencing.

As for this new issue, I will need to provide the log files in the hope that it will be resolved in future updates.

Are you saving to card and computer? As the card gets more full and you disconnect / reconnect the camera (happens with battery change) the computer now begins to index the card so it takes longer and longer as the card gets more and more full. An empty card indexes immediately and the Capture One regains control of the camera.

I use a 512 GB CFExpress Type B card as my main storage. After approximately 400 photos and a battery change, the connection dropped for the first time. The second card was a 64 GB SD Card II, and the same issue occurred after about 200 shots. The third card was a 32 GB SD Card I.

Each time I inserted a new card, the images stopped being saved to the card in the camera and were only stored on the computer, even though I hadn't changed any settings. I adjusted a setting in the menu, reset it, and then the images were saved to both locations again.

I followed the advice not to save photos directly to an external drive connected to the computer. All the cards were properly formatted.

What is particularly frustrating is that during a long shoot, I don’t have the time to deal with such issues—things need to work smoothly. Formatting cards during a shoot is also not an option, as I cannot risk losing any images.

Are there any additional recommendations you can make?

Thanks for the replies so far. It's good to know that is not only me experiencing these problems.

So, I double checked and Capture One has full disc access etc. on my macOS. I tried to connect again but still both cameras do not show up.

I have read about the SD Card work around (I use Sony tough cards in my SL2S and Angelbird CF Express Type B cards in my SL3) and I agree with Gwenny Eeckels that this is no professional option for me during a shoot. Since working with Leica & Capture One I expect it to work flawlessly.

This morning I had a shoot, and it did not feel good to present the photos on the LCD screen to the client instead of my MacBook/studio screens. Also I am working with presets while shooting which I cannot do this way.

Maybe it's still me, maybe it's something in my settings – I don't know.

Please, Capture One, get in contact with me to solve this problem.

Open a support case to have Capture One contact you. This is a user-to-user forum.

Hi Nils Leon Brauer how did you get on with this issue?

I'm having similar problems and have been going back and forth with Leica since I first purchased the camera last April. This issue is still not resolved! Any updates would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!
