New Wireless Remote Trigger for camera breaks C1 tethering?

I just purchased a Vello Freewave Plus Remote Wireless Shutter Release ( https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1619633-REG/vello_fwp_c_wireless_shutter_release_for.html )
I have previously been using a Canon Wired Remote Trigger connected to the remote 3-pin shutter connection on the front of the camera - everything works flawlessly together with Capture One (or untethered). However, I really needed a "wireless remote" button to replace my Canon wired remote trigger for some new projects.
I started by connecting the new Vello Wireless Trigger to the camera (untethered) yesterday and it worked perfectly (including in Live View), so I assume there is no problem between the wireless trigger and the camera. Next, I connected my tethering cable to the camera, launched C1 and C1 could not see the camera at all - tried every combination and connection sequence. Even though the tethering connection did not work, the camera was still responding the wireless trigger, but I could not go into Live View even manually on the back of the camera? Since the only thing that had changed since yesterday was adding the wireless trigger, I discounted the new receiver from the front of the camera and plugged back in my old Canon wired remote and EVERYTHING started working perfectly again. C1 immediately sees/controls the camera and I finished last night's session.
So... what would cause changing from wired to wireless shutter release to break the tethering chain? Is there maybe a Camera Setting I need to change buried in a menu somewhere? A C1 setting?
