JPGs with embedded metadata and no XMP-files. Is this possible?

Capture One never writes to an "original" file. The only way to embed metadata into a file is thru export.

Walter Rowe - many thanks for your response.

Am I correct that if I use JPGs in Capture one - add metadata (such as keywords etc.) - then export these as 'separate' files, that the metadata will be embedded into the JPG, thus removing the need for a separate XMP-file?

Let's say I connect my Fujifilm camera to my computer - I will be culling my images with C1 - add keywords to the pictures and then export these to a folder on my NAS, then all these images will have the metadata included with were added in C1 which can be read by external applications and there is no need for an XMP-file?

I know that the downside is that if I want to edit the metadata again after importing these in the final folder, these won't be embedded because I need to do export again, but that use case will be very limited.

Yes. Exported files will have exif and metadata embedded in them if you set your export recipes to include that. I include it in all of my export recipes.
