Raw files always look a bit flat in Capture One before you adjust them.

    Not necessarily my experience!

Here's a rather crowded screenshot of the same Z6ii image, unadjusted, in Capture One, Lightroom, and Preview.

I'd say Preview was the dullest. Capture One and Lightroom are different, particularly in colour, though that might change if a different profile to Adobe Color was used.

Can it be because I exported the NEF raw files from Lightroom (tethered session) and import to Capture One Catalog?

If you are viewing the camera original NEF files in Capture One that should not matter. If you have exported NEF files from Lightroom as DNG files then that could impact the output.

Capture One will render the raw files using its own camera profile and gamma curve.

Look in the Basic Characteristics Tool in Capture One. What profile and curve are being applied?

Also make sure no styles are being applied.

    Profile: Nikon Z6 II ProStandard
    Curve: Auto

I shoot portraits mainly and the skin colours and tones look very unnatural in C1 with these settings.

Try the Portrait curve. Nikon tends to push the reds. I find this helps. In general raw files will look a bit muted in Capture One vs the embedded previews (which LR may be showing you).

Have you tried the Nikon- Portrait setting instead?
