Linear gradient mask issue
I've encountered a very strange issue where the linear gradient mask is becoming skewed when a lens distortion is being corrected, I added a video to clarify when the issue occurs. It also seems like the gradient mask "follows" the distrtion of the lens instead of being dead straight

This is the normal behavior. I suspect this is because distortion correction should straighten a line vs make it more curved?

Not normal, haven't seen this happen before and i used capture one for over 2 years now, must have been one of the last updates

I've used Capture One since 2014 and to my recollection this has always been the behavior.

Really? oh my god, that's horrible, i can't get a straight linear gradient once the distortion has been corrected?

Sorry, has this never been brought up with the capture one team? Once the distortion had been corrected and horizon is straight, draw a straight linear gradient not a curved one? Sorry, this behaviour confuses me

Here is another example where the image had been straightened, distortion correction applied, but the linear gradient is curved. Lens used was tamron 50-400. It's worse with lenses with higher distortion

Yes, this is a known issue I believe (meaning other people have pointed it out). Go over to their ideas site (https://captureone.ideas.aha.io) and upvote / comment on one of them maybe? I agree it is annoying.

This has been brought up before.
See this: Gradient masks after keystone adjustments.
And this: Linear gradient after lens distortion correction.
Here's a request for a fix: https://captureone.ideas.aha.io/ideas/FR-I-606
As I remember, I contacted support about it, and they replied that it was unlikely to be fixed.

Thank you both! Will definitely upvote as it is quite annoying.

You should be able to get the linear gradient straight, despite the lens correction, as long as you drag in the middle of the image, not to one side or the other, in my experience.

If the linear gradient changes form when you apply lens correction or keystone correction, there's no way to straighten it out except by removing lens correction or keystone correction.
Here's an example (with exaggerated adjustments in order to show the effect on the linear gradient).

Thomas Kyhn - did you see Paul Reiffer's Live session with extensive discussion of the interaction of keystone correction and gradient masks?

Ian Wilson – I didn't, but I'll have a look at it right away. Thanks for the reference!

If anyone else is interested, the part about gradient masks comes after about 23 minutes.
I must say that to me his explanation sounds a bit like a rationalization of a not very well thought out behaviour.
For instance, holding down the shift key to place a gradient mask vertically or horizontally doesn't always work after making corrections.
