File import

"Optimize" is different from "Verify"; I'd suggest verifying your catalog as a first step.

When you say that the files re recognised by other programs, do the programs recognise them directly, or do you first need to export them from C1? If the former, then it sounds like your catalog is referenced, i.e. it contains pointers and no image files at all. If you have to export the images first, then they're contained in the catalog package and "physically" in the catalog.

Is it possible that some of your files are in folders on-disk ("referenced") and some are in the catalog ("managed")? If everything's referenced, then indeed C1 has no files to import; only pointers and I think it should be importing the folder structure you have. I once had a similar problem with a completely referenced catalog and ran "Synchronize Folders" to get everything right.

    Thank you for your answer.
It is true, I should have been a bit more precise that it is a ‘referenced’ catalogue, where the images are not copied, but remain at the original location and only a link to the location is set; this can also be seen from the fact that an ‘offline’ note appears in the browser if the external storage medium is not connected.
    Now to your points:

    • I only use ‘referenced’ catalogue(s).
    • I have verified the catalogue in question and it appears to be OK. Nevertheless, it is still not possible to add (links or references of) the 3 mentioned year folders (and the corresponding subfolders) to the catalogue.
    • Excire, ApolloOne and others can access, read and display all files at macOS Finder level without any problems.
    • neither ‘synchronize’ nor the use of the Capture One Importer allow the images (or rather the links) to be imported into the catalogue.

What really frustrates me is that I have been using Capture One since version 8 and have never had any problems adding (not copying) picture to my catalogue(s).

    Any other ideas / suggestions?

    Best,

    Mark

Do you have any images in the catalog Trash that have the same names? The Trash folder is considered when you exclude duplicates on import.

    Update:

in the meantime I have found out that it must have something to do with the file format that Capture One does not support. The pictures were taken in the very early 2000s with a Canon Powershot G1 in .CRW format; since they are mainly photos of my then still very young children, I don't want to lose the pictures and want to keep them, although from today's point of view the picture quality and size is rather modest, but they are precious memories...
As a next step, I tried to convert the images to DNG files (Adobe Converter 17.1 format) using the Adobe DNG Converter, which worked without any problems; unfortunately, I still can't import or add the images into a Capture One catalogue. I have tried different Adobe DNG Converter settings, but always without success. The .DNG files can be read and displayed by Excire, ApolloOne, FastRawViewer, etc. directly at Finder level without any problems.
    Any idea?

I am sure this must be disappointing. According to the supported cameras page Capture One supports from the G2 forward (no G1 listed).

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002718118-Camera-Models-and-RAW-Files-Supported-by-Capture-One#h_af1e6c60-5aa0-4c94-aba5-07e141364fb3

I would open a support case about it.

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I also would go to the ideas page and request support.
