Canon R1 connects to Capture and can fire tethered but images aren't saved to computer... looking for help with settings.
I just got a Conon R1 and I'm trying to shoot tethered to Capture. Capture sees the camera, I can change all settings and fire the camera but I can't get images to write to the computer. If I have a card in the computer they will write to that but if there is no card they seem to get stuck in a buffer and if I open the card slot the camera beeps and says, "close card slot, saving file...". I'm not sure what I'm missing, I've searched the manual and I'm rather frustrated. Thanks for any help!

Do you have Canon EOS Utility software? I don't use Canons myself, but I believe that it may be that the Canon utility and Capture One compete for control of the camera. Perhaps you could try again without the Canon utility running, or perhaps even uninstall it.

No, I checked that, no Canon EOS Utility installed. It's weird because I have full tether control to change settings, I just can't get the files to write to the computer, with or without a card in the camera. I am using Capture One 21, not sure if that matters.

The R1 is supported from Capture One 16.4.5 onwards, so yes, it does matter that you are on Capture One 21. You’d need an updated version.

Seems strange that I would be able to control everything on the camera but not be able to receive images, does Capture One purposely disable newer cameras to force people to update?

The fact that you can control some tools of your camera is because the body of the code of capture one that controls the cameras is similar for each model. So yes perhaps you are able to have some control but other things could be off.
Also with every new camera we need to profile the new RAW file the camera is producing and make sure it works with Capture One and our standards. If the camera is released today we won’t go back to add the camera to a previous version but we try our best to add it to the next version.0 -
$ounds good.
