Capture One creates a copy of the photo in the backup folder

    There is a feature where you can get Capture One to back up images as you import them. You can select this option in the Import panel - see this screenshot. 

    If you don't want it to do that, uncheck the Backup enabled box. 

    If that is what has happened, then

    • Capture One isn't using the backed up images as you do your edits.
    • You could indeed move them to a different location. If you want to use the backup on import feature, pay attention to where it is going to back them up using the Location... setting in the dialog box.
    • You could delete them.

    This is not the same thing as backing up your catalog. It is a good idea to backup your catalog regularly, but it does NOT back up the image files. It is important to have a system backup of some kind, with whatever backup solution you use on your Windows machine. (You do use one, don't you?)
