Input recipe?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I'll give it a try.

It is possible to save different sets of adjustments as user styles. A style can be applied directly on import using 'Import Images' dialog - 'Adjustments' tool - 'Styles'.

Been learning CO now for only a number of days. I'm sure there are a lot of folks who have moved from Lightroom to CO, as I am considering. I understand recipes for output, but was wondering if there's such a thing as an input recipe. LR has them, and I use them quite a bit. Sorry if this has been covered, but the search engine for this forum doesn't find much.

    Hans has mentioned Styles.

You also have recipe like control over creating folders, file naming and a few other activities.

So what are your recipe needs?

Have a look in the Help for introductory information as a starting point.

Thanks Hans and Grant. What I'm looking for is a way to create a list of places and import settings for specific types of images for importing from a card. I don't shoot tethered much. So, for example, if I happen to be out shooting and I shoot some clouds, some buildings and some people (I'm just making this example up), I have 3 "types" of things on this card. I insert the card. I can select all my cloud photos, and what I'd like is to click something like "cloud import recipe" which would ingest the images I've selected to an already predetermined output folder in my catalog. Then I'd click "building import recipe" which would already have the building folder, and import those selected images, and so on. I'd have any other settings for those types of photos already baked into the recipe, so I don't have to do any other selections. I know that when they are imported where I can find them, and anything else I would normally set on import for those types of photos to be done.

I have looked at the intro videos and numerous other videos, blogs, etc., but haven't quite found that sort of thing. Once I click File->Import Images... the popup window for import opens. I can't find any way at that time to select a recipe for the import.

Does that make sense? I'm sure CO users get sick of hearing "that's how it works in Lightroom", but...

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Jimbes,

Unfortunately, the importer doesn't have overall presets, but the token-based system can get you somewhat in the proper direction.

As Grant mentioned, you can create presets for the subfolders, although you have to click the "..." first, then select a preset, then click OK. Not really efficient, but possible. Also, it's only a preset for the folder structure.

You can also create presets for file names, and there you can use a 'token' for "Job name". So, the format (job name)-(image name) would rename your files on import by prepending whatever you type into the "Job name" field to the image name, separated by a dash. It would be nice if this token would also be available in the sub-folder field, but alas, it isn't. (note to self: report as enhancement in support pages.)

So, you could type in "clouds" the first time, then "building" the second time, and so on, and your files will be properly names.

If you want to add different keywords, you can, by selecting a Style in the Adjustment section. The third manipulation...

A single preset would indeed be handier.

But, having said all this, even with a single preset selection, you would end up with quite a lot of presets (unless you only shoot clouds and buildings 😉). That's why I have a fixed folder structure (YY/MM), and use the job name to prepend some kind of category to my files.

I usually import all images at once, even when they're mixed. I then use XXX as job name. I'll use the batch rename feature later to name them properly (replace "xxx" by "clouds, and so on).

And yes, many things work differently than in LR, some for the better, others for the worse.

    Cheers,
    Peter.

Thank you Peter, I will look into all that you mentioned. I have done some H.S. seniors sessions. I put those all in a directory structure and the last thing in that structure (when importing) is the person's name. I simply choose "Sr. Import" and type in the person's name and hit go. All files imported to the correct folder with the new person's name. Then I'll shoot some product...

Thanks again. I know I have to determine what how things work best in CO. I've been Using LR since it came out, so it's a tough thing to switch. I just found out that CO won't import .mov files from my Canon Camera. I don't think I'm going to go the Magic Lantern route. I'll just have to copy them into the directory structure manually.
