Multiple Monitor Setups & improvements
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to find the ideal solution for working with multiple monitors & was wondering how you setup your system and what improvements could be made?
My main work station is currently, Mac Pro late 2103, 3.5 GHz 6 core intel Xeon E5, 64 GB Ram & Dual AMD FirePro D700's and for the monitors, I usually work with two or sometimes three Eizo's, CG277 as the main screen & 2 x CG247 as the remote screens.
As these monitors have different resolutions, I don't mirror the screens in Yosemitte, but use C1Pro 8.2 to have one viewer window and one Brower window. This works fine as when cleints & the crew are looking over the images they don't have to watch me backing up, creating moodboards & retouching etc.
Whilst this setup does work with 2 monitors, 3 is impossible, as I don't believe I can create a 2nd viewer window?
I've looked at creating a "Floating Focus Tool" for my 3rd screen, but for some reason this starts at 25% Zoomed.
However my biggest problem at the moment is that I'm unable to select thumbnails to be seen on the Viewer window, on my remote screen, even when using just 2 monitors, the tools tab can be toggled on and off with the short cut, but the browser is greyed out.
Let me know your thoughts, setups and workarounds.

You are correct that it is not possible to create a second viewer window.
Generally I never work with more than two displays, and when doing so whatever images I have selected in my main display will be the images selected on the remote viewer window (which is generally 30-50ft away from me so I can't see it).
You aren't ever going to be able to select different images to display on different viewer windows. Capture One isn't really designed that way, and I wouldn't hold your breath hoping that will be an option.
Typically what I will do if I need a 3rd monitor, because I can't create a second viewer window, is use an HDMI or DVI splitter rather than plugging the 3rd monitor into my tower. That way the remote displays are always mirrored, so the viewer window is visible on both.
If you are setting up the external displays quite a distance from where your tower is setup (ie. more than 10-15ft) you'll need to invest in a powered signal booster of some sort. I use an HDMI over Ethernet transmitter because it gives me a solid 50ft run (Ethernet is much easier to work with than long HDMI or DVI cables, and 50ft of ethernet will cost about $12 so it's easy to replace it if it gets stepped on too many times).
Anyway - that's how I do it and it works well for my process (which is mostly digital tech on location based advertising shoots).0 -
Actually, even if you say that we shouldn't be expecting a second viewer feature, It's a pity because many techs will use this workspace...
I remember to use it with capture one 6 if I am not mistaken? At this time we could have a second screen workspace, I have to check but I remember that this workspace was still working with the actual C1 version, but not possible to reproduce manually...0 -
Adding the voice for the necessity of multiple view windows. Especially when picking selects with client whilst photographer is trying to line-up/view the next shot. 0 -
+1 for multiple viewer windows, although a workaround would be to use a DVI / HDMI splitter, so main screen on main tech monitor, and the 2x satellite screens with viewer window mirrored running through the splitter. 0 -

Honestly this is how I do it, and it works really well. Alternatively I'll hand a client an ipad running capture pilot, and show them how to rate/label photos so they can make selects at their own pace if I'm busy working with the photographer.0
