Layers not Applying next day ...

So if you press M on the keyboard, does any mask on the layer show up? If not, do the adjustments appear again if you draw a mask again?

To my understanding, the OP has created layers with a mask and adjustments the other day. The next day, the layers are still there, the adjustments too, but the mask is gone.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure that it really was that the mask had gone.

The adjustments are there ie...colour balance,crop etc but the layer masks have gone. styles added as a layer, Radial and Linear masks have gone, although they still show in the layer tool tab and have a tick next to each layer. 0 -
Just to note... when I open Capture one the event window comes up and says Error loading adjustment mask.

I suggest you open a support case. The disappearing mask is an issue I heard before, in particular with images from the past.0 -
Here are two support cases from me for this problem: #35713 and #42114 for 13.0 and 13.1 accordingly.
Still no fixes yet.
Question for topicstarter: do you use Eset cyber security? I have a suspicion it could have some sort of influence here.

No I don't have any security on my mac. I have deleted all capture one files and subdirectories and downloaded the latest version but it still wont apply the mask the next day. in fact it's even worse now as the mask vanishes when I change sessions which I do many times throughout the day.

Yeah, same here. I'm mostly catalog user, but catalog reopen do the thing also.
More often when internet connection is unstable. Past couple of weeks I was in the village with 3G modem and crashes happened every time catalog/whole program was reopened. Now I am back in the city with cable internet and masks disappears not so often.
Scott, did you saw correllations between internet connection "quality" and masks disappearance?

No I've not noticed. I'm always in the Studio and have a fibre connection.

Yes will do. I'm in conversation with Ben at Capture one at the moment. I just hope they find out the problem soon as it has been going on for 6 months or so and is a real pain in my workflow.
Also to note when I do a shot, a preview of a shot that I did before flashes up on screen for a second or so, even if the previous shot is in the trash.

I started to have this problem when I upgraded a catalog to 13.1. The masks on the Color Editor layers disappeared.
Wondering if I go to 13.1.1 if the masks will reappear, i.e. still stored in the catalog and just not showing up in the layer with 13.1.

Hi ... yes the Colour editor was broke but now seems fixed in the latest update.

Ok, the fix for this is the following ... delete all files in ~/Library/Application Support folder/Capture One
I had done this but for some unknown reason the files that were deleted came back when I re installed Capture one's newest build. Just to note you will lose any prefs that have been saved. I deleted them all as I didn't know which files were corrupting the system. Touch wood all seems to be working good now.

I deleted everything in the /Library/ApplicationSupport/CaptureOne folder. I did lose preferences and plug ins but I still get the same error on the files. I literally just migrated my LR to CaptureOne but am rethinking the move if I can't rely on my edits being preserved. Any other ideas?

When moving from Lr to Capture One you will lose parts of your edits.
Metadada should be preserved. Crop, Orientation, and Rotation should be preserved. White Balance, Exposure, Saturation, and Contrast are kind of preserved. Capture One says they are preserved. I say kind of preserved because the different editing engines lead to different results for the same adjustment. Color adjustments are approximated at best.

The fix for the missing layers still persists I’m afraid. It worked for a day then went back to how it was before. I’m just waiting on another reply from Capture 1.🧐😢

Looks like from my searching that Capture One has had this issue all the way back to 2018. That's a long time to wait for a solution. I'll keep checking back but this makes me feel like I need to go back to a safe place (LR) and not the best place (CO). Thanks for replying. Would it help if I also open a ticket?

Just a thought. I have two computers. The first is running Mojave and there are no issues with the photos on that machine. I also didn't have this issue on my laptop until immediately after I upgraded my laptop from Mojave to Catalina. Any chance there is some small part of Capture one that is no 64-bit (maybe part of the mask code)? Just a thought. Will open that ticket

I have this issue with the Clone Layer effects not getting applied (getting the error message). The layer is there 'Clone Layer' and it is Checked, but whatever was cloned is no longer. This happened after re-opening C1 later on the same day. It did not happen to other images with cloning that were edited the same day. So it seems intermittent or picks/chooses which images/files to mess with.

I've contacted support about this more than once. Yesterday I got this reply:
"Unfortunately, we cannot comment when this bug will be fixed as we do not comment on future development as per our policy, but rest assured that it has been reported and will be looked into.
We also cannot guarantee that this will be in the next service release, but we will do our best to roll out a fix as soon as possible".Until this is fixed, working in Capture One is obviously pointless. It's now been three months, and a fix may very well be still be months away.
I started using Capture One in January, attempting to switch from Lightroom, but I'm beginning to doubt that Capture One is a reliable solution.

I switched from LR too and was having a great time with C1. No more LR slowdowns, no more Mac fan running like crazy, etc, better (and faster) RAW image rendering - it seemed nearly perfect.
So it is amazing that potentially 'losing your work' (possibly hours) is not seen as an extremely critical issue with them. I don't get it.

Hi Patrick ... This has been happening to me for about 12 months or so. I have not heard from Capture 1 in months.
I have a work around that seems to be working most of the time when I remember to do it. When you finish Editing do a clone of the finished Variant and save it into the selected folder. When I reboot the computer the Layers have gone missing from the shot in the shoot folder but not in the selected folder.

Thanks for the idea - makes sense that a clone would work. You think they would just fix it, right? I came over from LR and really think C1 is so much better, especially in performance. But things like this kinda tick me off.

Hi Patrick ... Even when they get back to me we are just going round in circles with it. there's a different person everytime and they go through the same old same old, turn off hardware acceleration etc etc.

From what I know or have seen, it is very intermittent and unpredictable when it will happen. Have you noticed that too?
