I assume that the program is open on the screen and not minimized when you close it with Cmd+Q. I suggest you close Capture One and delete the preferences from the user's Library/Preferences folder. This folder can be hidden.

To unhide it, follow the instructions in point 5 in this article:
    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002410878-How-to-uninstall-Capture-One-on-macOS-

Note: do not follow the other instructions, as you do not have to remove Capture One.

    The file is named com.phaseone.captureone13.

Moved com.phaseone.captureone13 to trash. capture 1 crashed when opened. Put file back in and it opened normally. Go figure.
