I am always desperate when the basic elementary function changes to something else and there seems to be no way to take it back to normal functioning. Normally I want to crop a photo, select the function, draw the shape and done. Now, out of nothing there are suddenly some crossed four lines and nothing simply and instantly crops. What happened and how to make it to work simply and normally again ??

Have you opened the Keystone tool by mistake?

It sounds like you may have turned on Grid and Guides under the View menu.
