Variants and albums
Hi there,
Have used C1 for years at work, and have been migrating my personal workflow over from lightroom in the last year.
One thing that seems to be missing, or at least hard to figure out, is the ability to have variants split into albums.
My wedding workflow means I need to have an edit of ~600 images, then the same again in black and white.
In LR it was as simple as creating a new folder with virtual copies, so i could switch between my selects and my black and white selects just by switching folders.
In C1 the albums contain both variants, and promoting in one album promotes in the other.
Is there a way of doing this? It's quite frustrating having to expand, demote, collapse all variants to process the BW set or the colour set individually.

Try this in the library tool:
- Create a project P1
- beneath P1, create an album A1
- drag your 600 wedding photos to A1
- beneath P1, create a smart album SA1
- you should see all the 600 photos in A1 and SA1 (each)
- create a new variant for each photo,
-- adjust it to black and white
-- assign keyword "B&W"
- you should see 1200 photos in A1 and SA1 (each)
- set a filter for SA1 (keywords equals "B&W")
- you should see only the 600 black and white variants
- create a smart album for coloured ones too with respective filter on keywords
EDIT:
resulting structure:
- P1
-- A1 (all 1200 variants)
-- SA1 (600 b&w variants)
-- SA2 (600 coloured variants)
Does this work for you?0
