(Newbie) importing old photos

I'm new to Capture One, and have 20,000 photos organized into date folders (year-month-day) going back 20 years. The photo names are often the same as names in other folders. (different cameras / sequencing) over the years. When I import them into a collection, CO seems to ignore the folder organization and the photos are completely disorganized.
Any suggestions?

    It sounds like you're importing the images into a managed catalog; that is, Capture One is going to copy the images from their current location to inside the catalog, where the software will handle the folder structure. To import the images where they are and maintain the standing folder structure, set the Import To destination (in the Import window) to Current Location.
