catalog import : Cannot store files in current locarion
creating a new catalog, and importing from an SSD drive gives the error "Cannot store files in currento location. Would you like to import into the ctalog instead?" -- this didn't happened before.
If I run the same import from a different FDD (backup) drive, it works fine.
If I choose to import into the catalog, it copies the RAW files from the SSD source to the destination catalog folder.
In all cases, the catalog folder is located in the same place.
Anyone having this problem?
Thanks

From Capture One's point of view, there is an issue with the SSD drive. May I assume it is an external drive?
Could you perhaps share a screenshot of the Import images dialog before and with the error with us? You can post a link to the images here from your Dropbox, Google drive or something.0 -
Paul, thanks for your quick response.
I've created a video showing the import process from several disks :
https://youtu.be/VWOKoRmoTNI
Disks involved and the results:
Disk ASSET P/N Interface Test Results
D: SSD WD 2TB NAND WDS200T2B0A Internal SATA Failed
G: SSD SAMSUNG 256 HP 103 MZNLN256HCHP Internal SATA OK
C: SSD SAMSUNG 256 HP 103 MZNLN256HCHP Internal SATA OK
E: HDD TOSHIBA 1T MQ01ABD100 External USB 3.0 OK
I: HDD WD My Passport 4TB WDBYFT0040BOR External USB 3.0 Failed
Software drivers are all up to date. C1 12.0.3.22 worked fine.
I hope it can helps. Pls let me know if you need more information.

Is it just a coincidence that the 2 WD drives are the ones giving problems?

Hi,
Did you check the properties and the permissions related to the SSD drives ? Maybe are they read-only ? Are you able to write files to these drives when C1 refuses to do so ?
I'm assuming you are storing the catalog onto the SSD drives. Otherwise, there's no reason for C1 to write to these drives. In this case, the problem would be with the catalog's destination folder permissions.0 -
@SFA: thismay be a clue. I will investigate, althoung they have two different device drivers.
@Samoreen : All drives and folders are set to R/W. Many other software uses them without porblem, this includes the previous version of C1
The catalog destination folder is drive G: which is internal SSD, and of course R/W. I've also tried to build the catalog into a diffeent drive, and leads to the same results.
The problen is clearly related to the source drives as shown in the test results.
Thanks for the help. Regards0 -
MORE TESTS DONE:
- Installed another WD USB3.0 external drive, and it imports with no problems.
- Installed another instance of C1 12.0.3.22, and it works OK. No imports problems on any drive.
The problem looks related to C1.20 13.0.0.1550 -
I have the same issue on my CaptureOne 20 for SONY upgraded from CaptureOne 12 recently.
I tried import images from D:\image which is external SSD drive and choose destination as "current location". However, the error message popup appears "cannot store to current location....". The available space capacity shows C: internal drive which catalog exists.
CaptureOne 12 had no problem with this same operation, so I suspects this is CaptureOne 20 specific problem.
Is there any fix or workaround ?
Thank you.0 -
Just a quick thought. (For the OP)
Are you booting the system with the external drive plugged in and powered up?
The coincidence of the WD drives is odd.presumably there is nothing unusual about the internal drive.
As I recall the MyPassport drives have some additional properties associate with them but I'm not sure about that - it's a while since I researched the products.
I think it may be necessary to try to work out what is happening by interpreting the log files.

Hello, I've extended the testing, and this are the results.
Disk TYPE ASSET BRAND P/N Interface C1 20(13.0.0.155) C1 12 (12.0.3.22)
D: SSD 2 TB NAND WD WDS200T2B0A Internal SATA Failed OK
G: SSD 256 GB M.2 2280 SAMSUNG MZNLN256HCHP Internal SATA OK OK
C: SSD 256 GB M.2 2280 SAMSUNG MZNLN256HCHP Internal SATA OK OK
E: HDD 1 TB TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 External USB 3.0 OK OK
I: HDD My Passport 4TB WD WDBYFT0040BOR External USB 3.0 Failed OK
X: HDD 750 Black WD WD7500BPKX External USB 3.0 OK OK
@SFA: please note, there is one WD drive with no import problems.
The system boots from internal SSD drive C:
Also note: C1 12 works fine on every drive, and so the rest of the installed software.
This problem only happens with C1 20 13.0.0.155
The LOGS files for a clean test are here:

Is there any way I could help the development team to research and solve this problem?

Thanks and regards.
Have you already created a Support Case?
If not, at this point, I would suggest it would be a good idea. They will also appreciate the Log Files.
Bear in mind this Forum is on no way an official support channel - mainly just some users trying to help out.

So it turns out that I'm having the same exact issues. My issues arose after doing an export to the internal SSD that while doing the export the disk filled up haulting the process. Ever since that, its almost as if Capture one is flagging the drive for some reason. Is there some type of system file that locks this? Did this situation get resolved? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling C1, however, I can't seem to get a clean uninstall as to there when the I reinstall, it remembers my workspace. The SSD is fine, I've done several system checks on it, and can save, open and edit files from it with every other software. Furthermore, I can let C1 actually import the files the way it is suggesting and storing them in the "orginals" folder it is going to create, meaning it can still write to the disk.

Problem solved !
Finally realized it was a windows permissions problem.
Basically I added an 'Eneryone' entry to the disk root directory, and granted all permissions. To do this: right click over the drive and selec 'properties' then 'Security' tab, and add an 'Everyone' entry (if missing) , then push edit' button and check al the 'allow' boxes leaving the 'deny' ones blank, hit enter, and wait for the process to complete.
This should fix this issue.
I hpoe this will help anyone in the future.

I created an Everyone with Full Access and that didn't solve the problem for me.

I've had this same issue several times and then it goes away and randomly comes back. There is nothing wrong with the drives that I've expected. Two workarounds I've found is to "Add" the destinatino folder you are tyring to import from under the Library module, and then right click on the folder you are trying to import and sync, just do not click "show importer". I think its something wrong with the importer. Cuz the other work around I found was to not just click the folder via the importer, but rather get right down to the images and "select all" and then click import does it work. Its very weird ... I hope this helps someone to chug along till the issue is fixed.
