New with lots of workflow questions
Good evening,
I'm very new to Capture One Pro and moving from LR (I don't think that's a huge surprise)
So far I'm very happy with C1 and I can see myself moving permanently soon. I seem to have a ton of questions though.
In LR we're taught to use 1 catalog where possible. It seems to be ingrained into my mind. I like the idea of sessions, thought. To help with this questions, It probably helps to know that I shoot a lot of different things. For instance I shoot a little for work events (parties, retirements, promotions, ect) I could see these being put into their own catalog. I also shoot for a non-profit usually annually, again I could see this being a catalog. Where I'm not really sure is my other work. I'm working towards the wedding industry as a goal. Having shot a few weddings, I was thinking about isolating these in their own catalogs in LR, but never did. I see this as a good use for sessions and maybe pulling them into a catalog when editing and delivery is finished. I also submit photos to stock (new to this) so I could see some stock worth photos being mixed into the rest of these. So I guess I'm just curious what everyone else does.
I probably already know the question to this but can one search between catalogs? I like that in LR, with everything in one catalog, I can search and find all images with a given keyword. I know in LR I can't do this in a multi-catalog workflow and I'm 100% sure C1 is the same way. An example would be going through all of my daughter's photos, which span years, If everyone was in one catalog I could search "laura" and see all of her photos.
I've also thought about a family catalog and maybe other catalogs. Again, this makes me think about the stock problem above. If I take a photos of a Christmas item at a family's home, it's in the family catalog, not the stock catalog.
All sorts of questions, I know. What are some thoughts, experiences you have.
Keywords are the next. I was thinking about starting from scratch because LR was a mess. I want to make it right this time. In watching the tutorials online, it looks like I can split the keywords into multiple lists. Meaning : People lists, stock lists, ect..... Anyone use this feature like this?
Again, I know, lots of questions that probably don't make a lot of sense. So far, I just can't wait to dump LR for good. Capture One is much more reliable and just seems to work better. Just trying to get over the learning curve and get setup on a good path going forward.
Edit: Using Windows, not sure it applies, just trying to abide by the rules.
thanks
Rob
