Wasted space around image

Just looking at V20 with a friend, trying out some 16 mpx Sigma TIFFs and DNGs, iMac 27".

While playing with adjustments there's a big black border of apparently wasted space around the image, maybe 2 or 3 inches left and right, and an inch top and bottom. The Fit slider at top right, which I would have thought would expand it to fill the area, does nothing until about half of its travel then it suddenly shoots to 200% and the edges of the image are not visible - though the black borders are filled.

What am I missing here which would show all of the image without the wasted space? Blessed if I can find anything.

    Check whether you have enabled the Proof Margin, that is an additional margin. Check in the Preferences for the size (width) of both margins.

    Also, check you have not enabled Recipe Proofing from the View menu.

    Thanks. But Margin and Proof Margin both now set to zero, and Recipe Proofing makes no difference whether on or off. Still acres of black border.

    The images we were playing with were shot at 16:9. As a test we looked at some 4:3 images and these do fit to fill, that is, no top and bottom black borders, just left and right. So the question is, can not the 16:9's expand to fill the area by losing the top and bottom borders?

    It could be related to the 16:9 ratio of your images. Maybe you can contact support (from Help menu) and send them your image and a screenshot?

    Presumably you have a Process Recipe in use (based on your previous information)

    How is that defined?
