'Compare Variant' convoluted workflow
Hi
The problem i'm finding with 'Compare Variant' is that once you have found your favourite image (orange keyline) there is no keyboard shortcut to deselect the 2nd image (white keyline).
I can deselect it with the mouse which will leave the favourite image in the viewer still with the orange keyline. However in this state I can only give it a star rating via the mouse and not via the keyboard. Cmd+enter will deselects it as a Compare Variant but will also clears it from the viewer.
It seems a convoluted way to get through a batch of images.
Am I misinterpreting how to use this feature? I would have thought that cmd+enter would automatically clear the 2nd image and bring the Favourite image to the front.
Any thoughts?

The Compare Variant feature is a "holding" feature to be turned on and off. (It is effectively "pinned" to the screen - note the icon displayed on the related thumbnail).
What you compare it with is selected by, for example, scrolling left or right through the browser or through a set of selected images whilst keeping the Compare Variant on screen.
I think that's the opposite of the way you are thinking about it based on your description. However the result should be the same.
Using Windows, so long as the Viewer, not the Browser, has "Focus" - i.e. is the active window - you can user CTRL-SHFT-A to "Clear All" - which would clear all images associated with the viewer EXCEPT the Compare Variant image if set.
I think that is probably what you are looking for. I assume there is an equivalent keyboard command for Mac. If not I would guess that you can define one of your own choosing.
HTH.

Hi Grant
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried Cmd-Shift-A, which leaves the 'Compare Variant' in the viewer. However I am unable to rate the image with the keyboard whilst it is still a 'Compare Variant'. Removing it's status as a 'Compare Variant' using Cmd-Enter removes it from the viewer window.
There doesn't seem to be a keyboard workflow that I can use to sift through batches of images quickly.

Hi Kiran,
There are some natural differences in the User Interface due to the differences between Mac and Windows.
I have not touched a Mac in 20 years so I certainly do not feel qualified to advise on the specific details related to your desired workflow.
I'm not sure if what you would like to see working would work on a PC. It's not something that feels familiar to me based on the way I normally use C1 on a PC.
Obviously our workflow needs are different - or at least we use different routes to get to the final result. I'm reasonably sure that applies to the majority of posters in these forums.
Let's see what the other come up with for you as a solution to your needs.

Edits the keyboard shortcuts. there is a blank value for Edit > Select Primary Variant Only, and Edit > Deselect Primary Variant.
Now, one would think its the first option as what you are trying to achieve is selecting only the primary variant and releasing the other from the screen. Well as it happens its the second option that will achieve what you want - releasing the second (white border) image and maintain the orange border "selected" image on screen.
Continue with keyboard ratings.
I used Opt + Cmd + Return for my keyboard shortcut.0 -
Compare variant is used for tethered mostly - holding an image against new coming in.
This might be more suitable for your needs.
