Best workflow, sessions off external HD to computer to edit?

Last night had what I hope was a glitch when pulling a session folder off external HD to work on computer, which ended with computer locking up and needing to be restarted with original session in the trash. So want to make sure my workflow is using best current practices and is as safe as possible.

Equip. New 16" MacBook Pro, C1 20, Catalina 10.15.2, G-Raid 16TB external HD as JBOD, connected via USB-C via Dell WD19 180 Watt hub.

Workflow.
Sessions only, no catalog.
Copy session from G-Raid to Pictures folder on MBP.
Edit session.
Put session on G-Raid into Trash folder. DO NOT EMPTY TRASH.
Copy session from Pictures on MBP to G-Raid. Open to verify it's correct.
Use Chronosync to backup G-Raid with newly edited session to my backup drive. Confirm back is good via Finder.
Only now delete the edited session off the MBP.
Empty trash with the older, unedited session that was on the G-Raid and the edited session that was on the MBP (running a mean and clean MacBook Pro, so don't store images on it.

How does this look to everyone? Any changes I should make to this workflow? I do have 2 additional backups. One to another external HD I keep on site and a third backup G-Raid I keep off site. I need to look into BackBlaze or something similar for a Cloud backup beyond the off-site.

    It sounds like a solid workflow for me. In particular editing the session from the internal HD.

    Usually, at some point early in its life after importing and doing at least some work on the images, I copy a newly started session to my NAS system and park it there (Used to do the same with just an external drive rather than a NAS).

    Later, I may re-copy to a new folder on the NAS as an intermediate save. When 'finished' I copy again and they delete any previous saves of that session.

    So basically the same sort of processes but without using the "Trash" folder

    I just prefer to keep the separate versions of the entire session separate. It seems cleaner to me and less risky then using the G-Raid trash system that just might end up with an early unplanned emptying of trash or a restore that could lead to duplication or worse.

    To me it just seems easier to keep the saves separate and end up with basically the same result.

    I may have misses something about your process though.

    I need to get more comfortable with NAS systems and incorporate. I don't feel I understand them enough (when I did try to set one up), and if you don't really understand what they're doing, all too easy to make a mistake. But that does sound like a good idea as I agree holding the original version of the session I'm working on in the trash isn't ideal.

    A NAS has a place but that place may be best suited to a small business multi-user file.database sharing environment.

    My NAS, untroubled for a few hours this morning, went to sleep. A running C1 applicatioprobbaly try to discover more about the NAS - but for the once a year that the additional functionality offer's me a usable storage.

    I have a similar but much simpler question: does it make sense to keep a catalogue on your laptop with the raw files on an external and work in catalogues on the laptop? When needing to output, making sure external is plugged in. I'm experimenting with workflow and am now leaning to only doing catalogues and not sessions. I'm an amateur hobbyist so don't need extensive workflow procedures, just one I'm not likely to screw up. Thanks!
