Hguys, i have a question
What is the best way to create a collection / album with a virtual cloned variants of a large shoot that I can edit independently of the originals? I'd prefer it to be separated in the C1 browser, not as cloned variants next to the original.
Example:
I'd like to have one collection of neutral edits of a shoot and another separately managed in the browser with user styles applied, as a batch but sharing the original raw files. Is this possible?

Two ways I can think of:
Export the session to a catalog:- File > New Catalog, then
File > Import Session
This is preferred, as the catalog will read the adjustments that have been applied but not update the existing .cos sidecar files for the session, no matter what. Removes a lot of room for user error. Then, if you're satisfied, export the originals via File > Export Images > Originals, and check Include Adjustments. You can work with these copies in the existing session.
You can stay in the session and do this, too, It's a little unintuitive, but here's how:- Select the images (or Edit > Select All)
Clone the variants (Image > Clone Variant)
Select one second variant (the one with a [2] on the thumbnail
Right click on the thumbnail, select Select by Same > Variant Position
Add a keyword to the variants, say, "forEdit"
Create a new Smart Album with criteria:
Keyword Contains "forEdit"
Now you've got a smart album with only the forEdit variants that you can work from.0 -
Wow ben that's a lot of dancing around for a work around - thanks for posting that though.
You could open a support ticket requesting that specific variants be allowed to be placed in albums directly. I have done that. The example I used as my desire to have a B&W album that contained only the variants that I converted to black and white.
I am excited to hear that you can get a collection of specific variants using metadata and smart albums. That is a workaround I could actually use. I would much prefer the feature be added to allow me to organize variants in to collections at my discretion though. Hopefully some day.0
