Hi, I think you assess the situation quite right. For the functionality you prefer, you need the full Pro version. For your budget, you are limited to NEF in read-only mode and full functionality for your Sony raw files.

My suggestion to you is to go for Capture One Pro 20 (for Sony) now. If you later acknowledge that you really need to adjust and process your NEF files, you can decide to upgrade your license to full Pro, assuming you can save some money over time. The upgrade price is not much higher than the price difference between both products.

Thanks Paul for your answer.. appreciate it.

So I suppose for those NEF files that I just cant live without the ability to edit etc, I could always export to jpeg (high quality) or TIFF and go from there? I realize ill lose the RAW info which is too bad.. I was hoping DNG was the answer.

Again, its just a big lift from $99 for lightroom to much more than that for full capture pro.. just a hobbyist..
    THanks again.

    Hi,

I won't recommend to go from NEF to jpeg, but rather to TIFF (16 bits), as you won't lose much flexibility when compared to jpeg (compressed, 8bits). And to export to TIFF only the NEF files you are really interested in for a further development in C1.
