Help with folder hierarchy display
Hello,
I am currently a lightroom user and I am looking to move to something else.
I have been evaluating Capture One Pro and while I really like the software for its power, there is one capability that I believe is lacking for my particular workflow. Im askign this here to see if someone might know a way to accomplish this or maybe suggest a better workflow.
I currently store all my photos on my MAC hard drive in the pictures folder. So MacHD->Users->me->Pictures->Photo-library->By_date->2020->2020-02-03-<eventname>. So when I import new photos, I just create a new folder in the right year folder and put the photos there. In LR I was able to only display the tree starting from the 'Photo-LIbrary' folder and not have to show the other folder hierarchy above it. Well it seems I cannot do that in C1P. Seems I either have to show the full hierarchy which means I have to widen that panel display, or, I have to disable showing any hierarchy and then I get everythign in a list - not very useful in my opinion. Its an all or nothing sort of thing. What I was hoping for is to have some way to define say a 'root folder' and in the folder view it only shows me the folders from that point and lower.
Now it seems I could do this if I use groups and albums to sort of recreate my <year>-><event> structure, but thats a lot of extra steps when importing photos since there's no way that I can find to automatically create that.
Does anyone have any ideas on how this might be accomplished? Or maybe suggest a better workflow? Im certainly open to change 😊
THank you very much
Tom

I run C1 on Windows but thats maybe not much different. I work with smart albums but for new events /images I mostly use "Last imports". I also love working with floating tools e.g. for curves where sometimes I want to have a big tool so fine adjustments can be made easier. I can imagine you create an (additional) floating library tool, rezize it to your favour, which you can expand or collapse as you need it, so your normal tool tab panel can stay in your normal preferred (smaller) size.
You also can define a complete new workspace for this if you like (the only desire I have for this is a keyboard shortcut to switch between wokspaces more easily than via the main menu).

I do not know the Mac ecosystem, but another more genenal conderation:
I have my raw files on a separate, internel SSD, very close to the root, folder structure: D: photos, camera model , year, month, event. In the process recipies I have specified where the tiffs or jpgs should be stored on export (processing tob precise), this can be anywhere in your normal image folder structure. You can use tokens to determine the exact location by image metadata which is quite useful for this purpose.
