Session workflow splitting an SD card
Hello,
Does anyone have any thoughts how to process an SD card with multiple subjects on it into different sessions? I was a bit reluctant to import the photos when I shot them 😄
1) Is there a way when you want to import photos into a session that it checks for duplicates in another session?
2) Or a way to export a selection of photos into a new session? From either a session or a catalog. (So when you first import all in one go)
I would like to find a foolproof solution with multiple sessions without missing a part of my photos because I forgot them or missed a few during the selection.
So far I see 2 options which are sort of suboptimal:
A) Import all photos from the SD card into 1 session. Then create subfolders in the capture folder and rename the photos and put them in their respective subfolders. After that, create new projects and move each of these subfolders into their respective new session's capture folder.
B) Or indeed create individual sessions and import the selected photos and somehow keep count of them to see if I have all.
Any insights?
A) is most secure if you are afraid you will miss/forget a bunch of photos during import.
Perhaps creating a catalog and work from there and after it is culled and processed import it into the general catalog.

It seems like you're over thinking this. Without knowing why you need different sessions for images on the same SD card its hard to say the most direct approach to this but I'd likely use finder/explorer to move the files from the SD card to the session capture folder and then use Capture Ones Library and filters tools to move the files to sub-folders or to another sessions capture folder. There is no need to ever use the import function when using a session if you don't want to, navigating to a folder with the Library tool does import them. 0 -
I see no problem with using the Import function, though cdc's method of avoiding it would work.
I would create two sessions (let's call them Wedding and Party). Open one of the sessions (let's say Wedding) and import all the images. Then (still in the Wedding session) navigate in the Library tool to the Capture folder of the Party session and drag and drop the Party images into it (inside Capture One, not using Finder). They will be moved and if you have already made any adjustments to them, those will be moved with them.

Thanks, yes I prefer the using the import function. Indeed I think the best solution is to import the whole SD card and then move files out of it to other sessions. That is what I did yesterday, and I kind of like it. 0
