Re-attach variant only across computers ?

Dear All. Is it possible to attach/link a variant to a duplicate original in a different computer? I imported about 2K images to a mac book whilst travelling and edited about 5%. I also saved all the RAW files to a HD and have now imported same to an iMac at home. Rather than re-edit the same 5% again in the iMac, is it possible to move the variants from the mac book and attach them to the duplicate original in the iMac? I assume the answer is "No" but I would appreciate that confirmation from those who understand it better than I do. I suspect the only way to achieve it is to transfer the said 5% of edited originals together with their respective variants to the iMac and then delete the unedited duplicate originals in the iMac which were imported from the HD. Is that correct or am I missing an easier way?
