C1P 20 not building previews
Hi,
I encountered some very strange behavior of Capture One Pro 20 on my iMac. When I open C1P and import some images, everything goes smooth. Images are imported to the right place and C1P starts building previews while importing the images. All is fine.
On the other hand, when I keep the iMac turned on over night and leave C1P open and then the day after I try to import new images, C1P doesn't build previews anymore. I have to close and reopen C1P before it starts building previews.
In an earlier version of C1P I had a similar (but not identical) problem and after a lot of communication with the helpdesk we found out that the problem was due to a wrong time setting of my camera's (summer time vs winter time). The time stamp of the photos was ahead of the time on the iMac.
I wonder if the problem I have now, has a similar cause. (Since C1P is open from the day before maybe the date isn't adjusted to the new day.)
Any suggestions.

I don’t know the specific answer to your question, but I think you could get C1 to create the previews without shutting and re-opening it, if you select the new images without previews and choose to regenerate previews from the Image menu.

Thanks for your reply Ian. Yes I know I can make C1P create previews with the 'Regenerate Previews' command. I only mentioned the close and reopen procedure to show that C1P does create previews when it's freshly openend.
When I come home from a shoot, start up the iMac and open C1P 20 then it works flawless. I only have problems when C1P is still open from the day before and I import new photos. I tried it out a couple of times this week and it happens every time.0 -
I never experience this. But I never have left Capture One open for a night. 🙄 0 -
I have had a lot of problems with C1 20 building previews. I know it has nothing to do with time as I was testing out old pictures. I had to restart and select different folders to get a full catalog to render previews. I couldn't find any pattern to when it decided to render and when it wasn't. 0 -

Well Paul, from time to time it happens, especially in busy periods, that I hurry home and leave my workstation as it is. I seldom shut the iMac down and sometimes C1P is still open. But I agree that it is a minor problem. A problem I didn't have with C1P 12 or earlier. No need to roll your eyes though.0 -

Sorry to hear that Matt. In my case the problem only occurs when C1P has been open since the day before.
I hope you'll find a solution.0 -

That seems odd Matt.
I use sessions and use a Windows PC but I tend to leave the system and whatever it was running to hibernate, only rebooting when an app forces the issue, a Windows update or some other influence comes into play.
From time to time I will shit down anyway as a "tidy up Windows" activity but that;s about it.
Win 7 BTW.
I use sessions rather than catalogues but that does not seem to make any difference.
Mostly C1 is not recreating previews, in my situation, just repopulating the working memory when necessary and applying whatever current session adjustments may be required to display images according to the settings I am currently using for the system.
I am frequently amazed by the very different experiences people have using C1.

I am having a terrible time with Capture 1 20 and 21 trial. My previews have stopped working. If I regenerate previews, it works for a bit, but if I restart Capture one or scroll away, previews are lost. Support acknowledges it is a bug but has not ETA on a fix.
I am so frustrated that I had to buy Photo Mechanic to see the photos I am taking.
