As a principle, we never write anything to the raw-file. Using the xml as sidecars should be supported by most software, perhaps by a preference, if not enabled by default.

Capture One's default in this regard is to always read sidecar xml, but never write. The behavior can of course can be modified.

From what I can read the DNG file is a TIFF based raw file and - like JPGs, TIFFs - it is supposed to have all XMP metadata inside and not in a seperate file.

Would you consider adding "edit/write XMP within DNG" as an option in preferences (as it is now for TIFF and JPG files)?
