Bigger Catalogues
Hi,
I have a question regarding bigger catalogues. I hope that it will be someone here with practical experiences. This is not really a problem but I want to understand what’s going on there.
By the way, I have contacted the “new†capture one support and it was not really helpful and it is not a special item of ver. 20. The performance was similar in ver. 12.
All drives (D and E) are part of the same computer (WIN 10 x64, i7-7700K, 4.2 GHz, 48 GB RAM)
Catalogue size: 95 MB on SSD (D:)
RAW pictures, 158 GB, are located on HDD (E).
Total pictures referenced to the catalogue: 17,300.
If I had finished my work selected all pictures during previous working session and start CO again, it needs approx two minutes until CO has counted the 17 thousand pictures / previews. Than I think background activities will start and needs approx. seven minutes.
This is only for information to know what I have measured. After the mentioned first two minutes smooth operation within the catalogue is possible therefore not really a problem.
But, if you want to close the catalogue after the first two minutes it needs approx. five minutes for saving. That looks funny because it needs a few seconds if I have worked within the catalogue for more than ten minutes with a lot of changes.
Has anyone an idea?
Kind regards
Hans

I have over 60 000 images in my catalogue but have never had occasion to shut down C1 while the All Images collection was doing what ever it is that it does. So, I cannot comment on your specific situation. I would suspect that whatever processing that is going on that makes searching slow is also not being interrupted by the shut down process too.
Note I never leave the All Images collection selected when I exit C1 because that just causes too much pain the next time I start up. In fact I am working on several smart albums based on dates and keywords so I can find things much faster than waiting for the poor performance of All Images.0 -
Thank you for the reply.
Therefore it seems to be the best way to remember all times to change to a collection prior to shut down whenever I am in "all images".
Best regards.0
