Date is an automatically available filter in catalogues and sessions.

For the rest if you have done anything with file naming conventions on import you would have some OS based search options, other wise Keywords (or phrases) would be the obvious choice. Again, session and catalogues can benefit BUT if you really want all images then you need one catalogue or one session.

OS based searches can work with dates.

If you choose to export the result of each edit to a small jpg file for portability you can include the keywords in the jpg - which then means that the OS indexing facility can off you full search facilities too - at least to get back to the output version of an original file.

Or, to stick with sessions, you could have one master session that you use only for finding images in other sessions ... but that's probably a bit obscure and slightly additional work.

I hope that provides some food for thought.

Hi Grant, thank you for your reply and advice and help. Your thoughts have given me a way forward and I will try them out,
I was wondering about Keywords after watching the Webinar, so I am going to do as you suggest, use just one catalogue and keywords. Many thanks

Hi I was not going to continue this thread until I had either succeeded or failed and given up.
However after many bodged attempts things are looking up. I do have one issue I have not been able to resolve:
In Catalogue Keywords there is a keyword that will not be deleted. Rt. clicking the word does bring up the dialogue box and delete selected keyword is available - Delete Keywords --- OK is also available but nothing happens

Metadata - With the Images on screen and the keyword visable clicking on the x of the keyword word brings up a dialogue box “The action can not be applied to any of the selected items.
Adding new Keywords produces the same result

Is there anyway in which this keyword can be removed or the images assigned to other keywords.

Clicking delete on the images only gives me the option of loosing it / them from "all files". As I do not want to loose them I cancel.

Thank you for your help in this matter

    Two thoughts come to mind.

Firstly that the embedded keyword(s) may previously embedded in an "original" file (by a different application for example) and are read by C1 but cannot be removed.

Secondly - are you using XMP files for sharing meta data? Has the word (or words) arrived via some aspect of cross application synchronisation?

There have been a number of threads about Keywords over the years but many of the older ones may be more confusing than helpful. V9.3 seems OK for me although there have been further improvements in V10.

I would expect the Capture One Support Team to have extensive notes about Keywords by now so I would suggest creating a Support Case if you have not already done so and ask for an interpretation of the likely cause fo the error message.

    HTH.

Hi Grant thanks for getting back to me.
It is unlikely that they are embedded as they are fairly recent photos in JPEG and have not been touched until the day after our last communication when I used Capture to load every photo I had (145032) into the library, getting it to crate a new folder set up. After which I removed all my orignal photos from my computer to an external HD which is only connected when I need to use it.
The only thing I did before trying to set up any keywords was once all the photos were loaded I went through them to get rid of obvious duplicates and out of focus images. I then started to create and assign keywords.
Yesterday the catalogue went berserk, freezing, assigning key word to images I had not touched, assigning keywords to areas I did not want them, not saving anything when I shut it down to see if it would be more stable on re opening etc.. Basically if anything could go wrong it did.

No I have not used XMP files

I will follow your advice and contact the support team.

    Many thanks for your thoughts.

    Ah!

With the catalogue problems as described all bets are off!

    Have you tried a verify?

On the other hand I would probably hold off until you have the Support Team on your case (so to speak.)

If the internal indexation of bits of files to other bits of files (at the disk/OS level) has an sort of problem for whatever reason then nothing is likely to work well. Likewise if an internal index within the Database has broken things may well be the same.

See what the support team comes up with.

    Hi an update.
On Saturday 9th I started up the program and left it uploading my photos - approx. 15 min job on first opening. Left the room returning 5 mins later. Computer had switched off - no, power surge, power failure or trip switch action so ? what caused it is unknown.
Switched on and loaded Capture Pro - this presented its self as if just installed and first opening. No catalog or sessions shown and none found when clicking on open in other words everything had been cleared out and in effect this was a brand new installation I had opened.
Checked that the photos were still where I had the software place them - OK, checked the folder containing the data bases - OK, checked the data base backup - OK. Double clicked on the data base icon for my catalog and it loaded without problems.
The whole system has been stable since then. The problems with some of the JPEGS and 7 other images were still present.

I contacted the Support Team. They were unable to advise so we set up a screen link where by they take control of my computer. Within 15 mins they had resolved the issue. All non editable enabled JPEGS were all too small for the system to manipulate they need to be above 500 * 500px. They increased the size of a couple of them and hey presto we were back in business. I now have 770 JPEGS needing re-sizing. I am leaving that until I have catalogued and Keyword the 10,000 ++ that were editable. I am down to 8000 at time of writing this.
I think this can go down as a result.
    Cheers mick
