Best Practice for Importing Large Catalog
Sorry, if this is repetitive, but I don't know how to search on this site without getting the Too Common Words error.
Also, I have watched a few of David's videos, but he only deals with a single card or sub-folder.
I am trying to discover the most efficient method of importing my existing catalog of images. I have about 50K image spread over numerous folders and sub-folders on a Win10 machine with a traditional hard drive. My first pass, I just pointed to the root folder and let it grab everything. This takes some time to import and build previews, but that's not a problem. W
What does seem to be a problem is later pointing to one of the larger folders in this catalog. At that point, C1 hangs up for 5 to 20 minutes if it comes back at all. I end up crashing or breaking out. I have done several verify catalog operations, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Even if I get it up and running okay and want to search the entire catalog, I point at all images and then I am stuck again.
Should I be chopping my catalog into smaller portions? Is there some indexing operation I need to be waiting for?
I would appreciate any help or advice. I've had the software for a few days now, and have spent most of my time restarting or waiting. I did a trial of v11 some time back with the same catalog and don't recall these problems.

Here is some reading.
My post about my experience coming form LR: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=27207#p130622
Short version is after some trouble shooting and help from support I found a path that did *not* require separating things in the smaller chunks - it did require some cleaning and pruning in LR to get there though.
More reading that you might find helpful:
