What happened to the simple crop ??

I am always desperate when the basic elementary function changes to something else and there seems to be no way to take it back to normal functioning. Normally I want to crop a photo, select the function, draw the shape and done. Now, out of nothing there are suddenly some crossed four lines and nothing simply and instantly crops. What happened and how to make it to work simply and normally again ??

  I don't think the crop tool has changed so you may have inadvertently changed a setting. I normally see those guidelines when I crop, and I like it. But there is a preference you can set. In Preferences go to the crop tab, then Grid. You have several options for the kind of grid you would like to see, or set the Show field to Never if you don't want to see it at all.
