Color Editor - Color Picker - Anomalies in readings.
Try the following...
1. Activate the colour picker in the Color Editor - Basic or Advanced, it doesn't matter.
2. Hover the picker over a colour in an image, and make a mental note of the RGB reading at the top of the screen.
3. Taking great care NOT to move the mouse, click on the image and note the RGB reading in the Color Editor. (Double check that the before and after RGB readings at the top of the screen haven't changed.)
In my case, the RGB/RGB readings are the same in the Color Editor, as they should be. But, they are different from the top of the screen readings.
One reading of an unedited color patch on a Gretag Color Chart in an image gave 98/128/179 at the top of the screen and 102/128/170, in the Color Editor. Another was 94/47/34 (screen) versus, 97/60/48 (Editor).
They should be the same. No?

On both Windows and Mac I get a deviation of 1 point max. (2 points on 1 occasion) for 1 or 2 of the R, G, B values. Most (plus 50%) readings are identical. 0 -

I've now noticed that I'm getting three different readings on some Gretag CC patches.
The orange yellow patch is the worst. Red can be as much as 192 top of screen and 175 in the Color Editor.
The two sets of RGB/RGB values in the Color Editor should be the same after selection. Right? They're not.
Would be interested to know if you're using Windows 8? I'm 8.1 Pro.
This looks like an OS issue to me. Either way, anomalies that are 5%+ are too much for me.

Looking more like an OS issue then.
Brown patch on Gretag CC is within a point on screen and in Color Editor. But, Orange/Yellow patch really is bonkers!

I think I may be on to something….
If I open an unedited file with a Gretag CC, the RGB values on the screen and those in the Colour Editor are all identical. Perfect.
If I click on a patch in the CC and edit it, and then click on other patches, the RGB values for the other patches remain the same on screen as those in the Editor. Also, perfect.
However, if I make an RGB Levels adjustment, and then use the colour picker to make a selection on a CC patch, the on-screen and Colour Editor RGB values are now different.
Should this be so?

I wrote to PhaseOne online support regarding the anomaly in the Color Editor RGB readings after a Levels adjustment, and this is the reply I received.
"Hi - thanks for writing - the Color Editor will update as per changes you make/add to an image.
Instead you could use the Varian/Clone tool and have a setting file next to the RAW file with your changes and then save this into an eventual ICC profile for later use.
