You may find it worth trying all four options for clarity. I sometimes find that some produce more haloing than other.

Thanks Ian. I have tried that method. I probably need a workaround not using clarity as it is my culprit in causing halos. Jack

Could you try using clarity on a layer? Perhaps with a Luma range?

Keep "Structure" in the Clarity Tool low, especially if you have large boundary lines with significant differences either side.

Likewise the Radius values in Sharpening. And use the Halo suppression feature in the Sharpening tool - it's not a magic wand but a subtle assistant.

Use Recipe Proofing to see the effects.

The same values used for an edit are very likes to give a different result for different images AND different sizes of the same image dependent on intended output settings.

View the proofing at 100% and check the areas of problem detail.

    HTH.

Thanks again Ian and Grant.Part of my problem happened when I used Zerene Stacker. I need to read up on the stacker to avoid it in the future. Your remedies helped very much on single images...Jack

    Interesting.

Are you stacking pre-processed RAW images (jpg or TIFF output from C1) in Zerene or trying to re-process the stacked images after using Zerene? If after stacking, which file format are they using?

Hi Grant, sorry for delay in responding just returned. I do minimal processing with raw in Capture One, adjust Kelvin and make a tiff that goes directly into Zerene Stacker. I recently found that there is a radius adjustment with Zerene that might have an effect on the image in creating " halo effect ". From there I work on the tiff for post-processing. Your earlier replies have had an impact in my work process. So far my images from Tucson, early morning light with deep blue sky on white exterior of San Xavier del Bad are holding. Thanks again and if you ever venture into the southwest drop me a line for some interesting locations...Jack

    Hi Jack,

Glad you have found a way to make some progress with this. There are likely to be more things that I am not aware of so keep thinking about what the tools are doing and testing the ideas that the thoughts suggest.

I would love to visit the South West (and the rest of the USA that I have not previously visited - which is most of it!) but I'm in the UK so opportunities are limited.

If you ever find yourself heading this way let me know and I will come up with a list if places that you may find interesting as landscape subjects - though perhaps at a smaller scale.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I do have a question: Do you have a link to an image ( anywhere? google images - etc) that shows that type of condition? I searched for it, but I seem to come with ice crystals forming halo's around mountain tops. Just trying to further my knowledge - should I ever encounter that(this) problem -

    thanks

Hi Dan, if you send me your email I'll gladly send you two images that show the effect and the remedy, outlined by Ian and Grant. My email: jgguckian@cox.net

This is a follow up, after re-editing an image that had a noticeable halo around a mountain I took Grant's advise and lowered " Structure " slider to -15. This eliminated the problem, although this originally was stacked in Zerene Stacker and later edited in Capture One, the Stacker without proper care with it's radius slider will exacerbate the problem. Thanks again Grant...Jack
