"crop outside image" not working?

    I can not replicate the issue with CO 20.0.2. Which version do you use?

    It's somewhat dependent on having rotated the image or perhaps using some lens correction and wanting to ignore the suggested crop.

    Are either of those factors in your requirements?

    No rotation, and I tried switching to 'generic' lens profile and un-checking "hide distorted areas".

    Just to be sure, do you actually have part of an image that would fall outside a regular crop area?

    If so, are you trying to create a crop that would result in all 4 corners of the image being well inside the crop area?

    I don't really use "crop outside image" but my understanding is that I could use it in an image like this one, which needed a lot of rotation because I didn't get the camera straight.

    If I wanted, I could crop as shown, which would leave me with some blank areas which I could then fill in using something like content-aware fill in Photoshop, or the inpainting brush in Affinity Photo.

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding this option.

    I find that I can in fact crop outside the image BUT only if it's rotated - as in Ian3's example. If I don't rotate it I can't 'extend' the exported JPG by stretching the crop rectangle outside the image. I thought I used to be able to do that, but maybe I'm wrong.

    It sort of makes sense because unless it's rotated there's no black region around the image to extend the crop into. If it's rotated there's a black rectangle around it, but I can't stretch the crop beyond that, so some piece of the image must always be in contact with each side of the exported jpg.

    This is version 20.0.2 Pro.

    That's it.

    Extreme lens correction might be another example of where cropping outside the image could apply but it's not the sort of adjustment that would allow you to add some sort of border to the image (for example).

    For that you usually need some sort of graphics concept package that offers a form of canvas that is larger than the photo image.
