I can't find out how I can display the date on an image....either in the browser thumbnail or in the viewer.

    Use the Metadata tool view.

    Or maybe "Show in Explorer" (or OS dependent option.)

    For simplicity and convenience I normally include the date (YYYYMMDD) in the file name on import which makes it visible most of the time.

    There is, of course, the question of which date one might wish to see ...
