Metadata Included in Raw Image Export?

Do you really mean that you are exporting raw files, not processed output such as TIFF, JPEG, etc?

if yo do really mean you want to export the raw files for another Capture One user to use, then go to File>Export Images>Originals. Make sure that Include Adjustments is checked. When the other user imports them, they would need to make sure that they check the box to include existing adjustments. The keywords should carry across.

If you want to have the other user open them in another app, and have the keywords included, you would probably need to make use of XMP side car files, on which I am not an expert, but someone who is more used to them may be able to add something.

If you want to export in other formats for another person to use (TIFF or JPEG, for instance) then you will be using Export Variants (or a process recipe), not Export Originals. You'd need to go to the Metadata tab in the export dialog and make sure that the option to include keywords is chosen.

Thanks for your help! I'll try those options on a couple files to see which works best for me.

I'm trying to move one of my Capture One catalogs to Lightroom, including keyword and star-rating metadata.

Exporting the Originals (including Adjustments) does NOT export the metadata.

Can anyone clue me in on how to export the original RAW files accompanied by metadata, either by including sidecar files or some other method?

    Thanks for any help.

To export the metadata from Capture One you need to make sure that the metadata is exported as XMP file. To accommodate this, set the metadata sync setting to Full in the Capture One Preferences.

However, images that were imported into your catalog, still do not get XMP sidecar files on export. The workaround is that when you have exported your images from your catalog, you open a session (or create one first), open that folder with exported originals, and tada... XMP files. Note, set metadata to Full Sync.

If you further do not use full sync, switch it off again.

Excellent -- thank you! I've turned on Full Sync and let Capture One do its thing.

Now I'll export some test files to try the next step.

I think what you're saying is I should Export Originals, then create a new temporary Capture One catalog and import those files with the import set to leave the originals in place.

    I'll try that next.

    Thanks again!

    Et voila!

    Sidecar .xmp files magically appear.

Thank you so much for the advice!

Not a catalog but a session. But maybe with a catalog is works as well. I have not tried that.

A final note: I followed your directions to a T and all the images imported into Lightroom with all exif data, including star ratings, keywords, and even color tags and flags.

One quirk: The number of imported images perfectly matches the number in my original Capture One catalog, BUT the size of the Capture One Originals folder (not the caches, previews, etc.) is roughly one and a half times bigger than the size of the original raw files exported.

Same number of original image files (all Nikon .nef raw files) but a much different amount of disk space.

    I assume there's simple explanation...

Maybe, but not one I can quickly come up with... 😉

I'm not going to worry about it.

    Looks like everything is copacetic.

    Thanks again!
