Apple Aperture migration: C1 20 crashes
I try to migrate several Aperture libraries to C1 20.
the smaller ones (like som 20.000 photos) work fine.
My largest library has 240.000 photos, opening and working fine in Aperture, has problems for migrating.
The process crashed with about 45000 transferred. Strangely, the library did work with those 45000. But I need all of them.
Is there any way to get that done?
My computer has all the resources necessary: 64Gb RAM, 8TB SSD built in disk. (MacBook Pro 16)
Is this a bug in the software????? it should be able to do the migration process.

i have tried this across several versions, and bigger libraries were always impossible to get in without breaking them into smaller libraries on export. i did mine by year which seems to have been under the threshold.
that said, i have found slightly better performance exporting the files out of Aperture into folders, and then importing into new C1 catalogs. you lose the adjustments this way.0 -
I had a large referenced Aperture library, so my on-disk structure mirrored my Projects structure. I had Aperture embed the metadata into the files and then imported the folders directly into Capture One (v8 at the time). Worked like a charm. Note, though, that to not lose my metadata I embedded it into the files, which some people view as a no-no.
If your library is managed, I'd suggest converting it to referenced before importing into C1.
As for your edits: most are lost in C1 anyway. I think Crop and one or 2 other adjustments are retained if you import an Aperture library, but most everything will need to be redone. If you want to ensure that your final versions are kept, you need to export TIFFs of them and then import both the TIFF and Raw into C1.0 -
aperture can export xmp sidecar files with the originals, so you don't have to mess with your RAWs if you don't want to. those will be read by C1 or any other major app 0 -
240.000 Images is the largest catalog I have heard of so far.
I know that there are people who have struggled and successfully imported referenced catalogs around 130.0000
