Image Blurring

Yes, this can happen as the preview is redrawn. Depending on the hardware, this might be noticeable.

    Thanks Paul.

I've got a Desktop with an i5 8400, 32GB of DDR4 and a GTX1050Ti. Capture1 and RAW photos all stored on a 1TB M2 drive. Caches are on an internal SSD.

If the problem is hardware related, which is the likely weakest link? I'm guessing you'll say the graphics card.

    What is the screen resolution?

    2560x1440 @ 60Hz on a Benq BL2710

You could try to switch between Auto/Never for hardware acceleration for display in the Preferences. This will tell you something about whether that helps you or not.

What size are your preview files set to as default?

If it goes blurry while working on the sliders it usually means that Hardware acceleration is not being used.

In some cases HA may be enabled and working properly but C1 does not use it. One example for this is when you are using LCCs with dust removal enabled.
In that case it will always default back to software based rendering and get blurry/pixelated.

Thank you everybody for your ideas.

I'll now carefully analyse when the issue arises and then consider each of your responses to cure the problem.

Found that image blurs when altering saturation and darkens when altering contrast. These effects are considerably reduced by choosing 'Never' for Preferences/General/Hardware Acceleration/Display and totally eliminated if /Processing is also changed to 'Never'.

So has anyone got any ideas why this is should happen and what would cure the 'problem'?

Possible problem with the GPU driver.

Or the creation of the kernel(s) for the discovered OpenCL capable devices that C1 finds when it starts up.

There should be a log file that records that activity and may provide some insight that is instantly meaningful. If not the experts in C1 Support will know if it tells a story.

If there is a problem the first thing to try is simply the regeneration of the GPU/OpenCL kernels.

There are some trouble shooting documents in the Support FAQs section that should help.

I know the (simple) process for Windows but am not at all familiar with Macs.

I had a similar problem see my "Image darkens when adjusting" post
The problem I had was Catalog specific although only CR2 and DNG files were affected. I tested some JPEGs and they worked fine. I created a new Catalog and imported some CR2 files from my external drive and I was able to make the necessary adjustments without any problems. I have now gone back to the original Catalog and have run Verify Catalog or Session from the File menu and although no error was reported the problem has been resolved.
    Might be worth a try.

Further attempts at solving the problem. Found that going into NVidia 3D settings and changing from Quality to Performance means that I can now switch Hardware Acceleration back to Auto (for Display and Processing) and not suffering the blurring and darkening problems encountered at the start of this post.

Thank you all for your input which steered me towards the solution.

    Interesting.

    Thanks for the followup.

I can't recall what my NVidia GPU is set to but as it's an old notebook card anyway I doubt the performance it has available would make much difference whether set to Performance or Quality!

Something to check out of interest. I don't feel I have a problem with performance in this system but then I'm OK with slight delays from time to time - a few tenths of a second perhaps - so I may not be the most critical of users. Persistent extended delays would be annoying but that rarely happens unless running multiple applications has consumed all of the memory.
