View selected color range
Hi, I am using an iMac and I was following the webinar on Advanced Image adjustments and got as far as ticking the box but I cannot access this tick box, it's greyed out. I used the colour picker and selected my target colour but the box remains greyed out. The only reason I can think of is that I do not have enough colour range for this method. My image is a stack of white paper towels on a white background and I want to make the background pure white 255.
Am I right or have I missed something?
Thanks

I think that you are bound to have trouble with this. White, after all, is an equal mix of all the colours. So if the white balance of your image is correct, you won't be selecting any colour at all if you use your picker on the white background. How about another approach? You could first of all make sure that the white balance is correct by using the picker in the white balance tool, and clicking on part of the background that is meant to be white. This will make sure that it really is (or at least that it is a very light shade of neutral grey). Then you could create a local adjustment layer and paint a bit of extra exposure just on the background bits that are meant to be pure white, to make sure that they are white and not light grey.
