WTF, even the forum software is crap. I am NOT NNN636223530600971780 and have no clue why it is referring me as someone else. Geez Capture One programmers, pull your heads out of your backsides!

You can change your user name from your account page on Phase One's website.

And that was about as intuitive as the software--so not intuitive at all!! 🤓 That should be an option located in the forum User Control Panel, not in Phase One's account page. Geez, no wonder the software is so non-intuitive...

Now how about an actual answer to the question posed in the first post.

    Jack,

You are trying to do what I tried to do when I first dived into C1 and I rather suspect that, like me back then, you are making your life harder than it need be and at the same time missing some more subtle benefits that the C1 Session functionality offers.

I came to it from an application that, on the surface, seemed very similar indeed. Looking back I can see where the similarity led to confusion and and obscured the benefits available in C1.

Firstly - the session folders are "special" in that in the Library menu they represent "functions" that can point to an assigned folder somewhere.

By default C1 will create its own folders because it needs somewhere to allocate the function to and, in the main, I find those default folders fine for my purposes. I suspect they will do for you as well but if not no big deal.

So those are 4 "virtual" folder with default "physical" folder that they point to.

You cannot create another type of virtual link that will sit in there. But you can assign the named feature to any other folder you wish - just be sure it makes sense.

For the subfolders under Output - I think you will find it advantageous to look at the options for Output processing and the recipes available and add the subfolders you want at that point based on the recipe used to create the contents. So for now I will leave the subjects of subfolder with that statement.

For your Final Processing and Time Lapse folders go to your top level session folder where the "Physical" default folder reside. Do this through C1 ideally. In Windows you can use the Show in Library/Show in Explorer options to find the correct folder. Mac should have something similar.

Add the two new folders. Make them "Favourites" so they will always appear in the "Session favourites" section of the Library.

To Save your new Session Template select "Save as template" from the file menu and then supply a name when asked for one. As you probably already know.

Now you should be able to create a new session that calls up that template and has all of the folders you desire except the Subfolders in the Output Folder for the reasons previously mentioned.

The Virtual folders do, logically, need to point to a single folder, not a folder structure, for the idea behind them to work as planned. (And ultimately save you work too.)

Out of interest what is your criterion for separating "Selects" and "Final Processing" ... and indeed even "Time Lapse" but in some ways that explains itself. Does Final Processing imply the involvement of some additional software? If so might it really be an"Output" related folder?

ETA: Fixed a couple of typos that might have been confusing.

Jack, I saw this after I had posted my reply.

A couple of things perhaps worth mentioning.

Firstly Phase supply this forum facility as a User to User communications service that is, for the most part, lightly moderated.

There is little point in being intemperate with the people who reply to you, they will, in my experience and observation, only be trying to help you. For how long depends on you.

If you really wish to criticise the Company take the time to create a Support Case to tell them about your concerns and give them an opportunity, should they wish, to explain things to you.

That's the way they have chosen to manage such matters and so make sure everything is visible to them internally. So if you want to make an impression and offer your advice it is by far the best approach.

    HTH.
