Support on Canon EOS 1dx mark 3, format CR3
The latest version of the program does not support this format with this camera. The program does not see CR3 files in folder. When can I wait for an update or find a solution to this problem.

Usually within a few weeks of the camera being released and after the Capture One Lab has had an opportunity to run some analysis and set some default basic settings for the files being produced as well as confirming that all connectivity and controls seem to work for testhered use.
Locally to me this new body still seems to be listed for Pre-Order by the regular vendors. It may have been released in other parts of the world. Do you have one already?

Yes, I have this model, I ask a question about it.
0 -
It's not under general release - how could Capture One have profiled it yet?

The camera 1dxm3 went on sale, i've got it. Adobe has already made the updates to Photoshop- Camera Raw and Lightroom. But I worked before in Capture One and want to stay on it.

It looks as though Adobe added their support for this camera only a week ago, so it's not as if they've supported it for ages.

A week ago the camera was officially released. So. I want to understand the time frame when I can work in C1.

Be sure to Submit a request if you have not already sent one.
This helps the developers understand the number of people with an immediate interest in the camera.
It may not speed up availability and in the case of a camera like the 1DX3 in an Olympics year I would doubt that it it would be overlooked or delayed but it is always worth letting the developers know about the urgency of your immediate requirements.

I already wrote to the developers, but the question remained unanswered. I decided to duplicate the question here.

The question will remain unanswered because it has always been Capture One's policy never to announce in advance. But as Grant (SFA) suggests, no doubt support for a camera such as this will be forthcoming.

Just to keep this discussion going....a week and a half later, another 1Dx mkIII user who is still eagerly awaiting Capture One's support for this camera.
1 -
I'm also awaiting a Canon 1dxm3 update...

I just got a response from C1 to the request I submitted:
"We can't comment if or when support will be implemented for this camera, nor can we provide updates on the 'progress' of implementing support."
I guess it is time to reacquaint myself with the Lightroom workflow. Sad that Adobe is leading the charge in supporting pro cameras.

fgphoto,
That's the standard response.
Good to see that, despite all of the other support changes people are not too keen about, some things are consistent.

Just to put a bug in someone’s ear, it would be nice if there is some urgency to this. Folks want to use your tool but can’t because of this lack of support. The camera was released to the general public on February 13, almost a month ago. Adobe had support for it on Day 1 of the release. Canon is not a niche player in this market.

Just for reference I have recently installed the latest Affinity Photo release which no include CR3 file support.
I downloaded a 1DX3 sample from the Pre-production set available in the dpreview web site.
It opened in Affinity. However the out of camera jpg displayed in the dpreview browser through Firefox was far better to look at than the CR3 rendition. I'm not Affinity expert but none of the edits I attempted did anything to get near the results from the jpg.
Maybe being a pre-production file was a limitation.
I suspect that to get the new features working, deal with anything new for tethering, check the options for connectivity for downloading that people will expect to find and, no doubt, implement HEIF support will make the task list for support a little longer than usual. There are also some extremely high ISO settings to consider.
No doubt there will be some other thing that users will expect to have covered one way or another.
Presumably the jpg option does not appeal as an initial solution? But based on what I have seen so far I think I would be tempted to go with it anyway and save myself some processing effort.
It's a pity I really cannot justify buying one - assuming that there are any to be bought. (I read that Canon have closed 5 factories presumably due to the effects or possible effects of Covid19? No idea if those closures or maybe parts supply issues might affect 1DX3 availability but they might).

Tick, tock, tick, tock...
Come on C1...

I've been using C1 since version 1,.
I don;t recall ever having to wait so long for support for a new Canon body. Maybe I am misremembering, but I don't think so.
I had always associated C1 as more of a "professional's" tool than any other RAW application. It's a shame to have a professional camera with no rush to support it.

So I wrote this whole long text about how disappointed I am in C1 not updating the software for my beautiful new 1DX Mark III which has become a paperweight since my clients and I only use Capture One for our shoots, but it shows as pending. I added the comments over a week ago, maybe they didn't like what I was saying but it was my truth. Not sure a Forum should have to have approval where we can't say anything negative, doesn't seem right. I said nothing vulgar for socially unacceptable. Hmmm! Anyway, I spent a lot of money to get my 1DX Mark III on the first day it was announced and here it sits while I do shoot with my old 1DX. Really annoying to say the very least!! Come on Capture One, this seems like a lone time to support a new body, you must have gotten the info from Canon a long time ago in preparation for the launch date. This is not what I expected from you!

Sending this again since it never showed up in the forum feed and only shows as "Pending" when I sign in.
So I got my Canon 1Dx Mark III February 13th, exactly a month ago and I am still waiting for C1 to support the new camera. I am chomping at the bit to use it but it's basically a paper weight and totally useless to me right now. All of my clients work in Capture One including myself and that is my workflow "period". Without C1 I just can't use it. I work with some pretty big clients and I was really excited to get a chance to work with all the great new features of the Mark III so this is really a bummer. I ordered the 1Dx Mark III the day it was announced so that I could have the latest, greatest technology but I guess I should have waited since the Capture One guys can't get their crap together enough to get an update out in a reasonable amount of time. Canon knew this camera was coming for a long time and I know send out the new profiles for their new camera bodies way in advance, which is why Photoshop Camera Raw supported the new files on day one. I think Capture One is amazing but I think their support team is not doing a great job. When Catalina came out they put out an update that worked with the new OS and it worked perfectly but for some reason when Catalina went to 15.1.2 you could no longer shoot tethered anymore. I contacted tech support but I got some kind of computer response and very difficult to get someone to really help me to resolve the issue. I eventually found a fix on line having to type in some codes in Terminal. I wasn't upset that there was a problem, these things happen, but I really wanted someone from C1 to actually care enough to contact me directly and try and help me figure out the problem. I am really not happy and pretty frustrated! Yes, tick tock, tick tock, where is the update guys, you can do better than this!!!!!!

I think I’m moving on, returning to Adobe’s Lightroom/Photoshop. Frustrating to have moved over my catalog, learn a new paradigm/interface, then not be able to process raw files with the camera I’ve had now for a month. And nary a word from the C1 folk. At least Adobe has the bandwidth to support major players like Canon.

I am in the same position as you Richard... a workflow build around C1 that is now brought to a halt if I want to use the 1DX mkIII.
I went back to Lightroom out of desperation, but I'm finding it actually works pretty well now. Adobe has managed to speed it up so it no longer lags like it used to and I'm really pleased with the resulting images (from the mkIII and older bodies 1Dx mkII and 5DsR.) I am also surprised that Adobe is month ahead of C1 in releasing a version that works with a flagship camera... it used to be the other way around.
The longer it takes, the less I see C1 being a part of my workflow going forward.
Of course with the Covid-19 pandemic, this could play a part in the delay, but if that was the case, I would have hoped that they would have said... something... not just complete silence with no support.
Stay healthy everyone!

I am a moderator on a major photography forum.
I was using Capture One and "RawShooeter Essentials when Adobe finally grew up and took over RawShooter and turned it into Lightroom. I have tried lightroom many times, was a beta tester, really worked at liking version one, tried again with two, finally gave it up with LR4.
The whole time in front of thousands I have been espousing the virtues of Capture One. The only thing I never liked about C1 was the higher price. (every other raw tool was less,. all of them)
BUT, for the best sometimes you have to pay. So I did. Just as I did for the 1DX3.
And now this.
A new update to C1 20 on March 3 version 20.3, and it added support for the EOS M100???! Is ANYONE using Capture One shooting the M100 and M200? Really? I can't believe Phase One had the nerve to release that update without 1DX3 support!
Are we really going to lose this tool completely over adoption of a recent camera's MINOR changes to the RAW file (seriously, the 1DXII and III RAW files are that different?)
FYI, "Fast RAWViewer" reads 1DX3 files without any update..
Your the pricey one, your the professional one. C'mon, get it done!
1 -
As a Canon user you should be aware that CR3 is NOT a minor change to CR2 from the previous 1Dx2. Also typically Phase One has to wait for the release of a camera to purchase and then interpret the RAW format.
-1 -
But the EOS R and the RS both shoot in CR3, so while there might be some changes, CR3 is not altogether new. It is interesting that a lot of other companies that are smaller than Phase One/Capture One can do it in a timely manner but C1 has not.
1 -
See my post earlier in the thread.
CR3 is just a file format and tells the processing software nothing about the data coming from the sensor - just where to look for the different parts of the data file.
There are many more things about the whole camera package for C1 to cover - not just the file format and "tuning" the RAW data to a state of acceptability.
Other applications may or may not do their own assessments.
For example when I used an application the relies upon dcraw for its file interpretation (as many did then and perhaps still do though there are other "bought in" sources) the support of new cameras might be quite quick or could take months. All one got was something that gave a reasonable interpretation of RAW data and looked something like an image taken by a camera. If that is all you expect from C1 to start with you could just send a Request that they should skip all of the other stuff and just give you a basic conversion. Or you could use some other software (Canon's maybe?) to produce a TIFF or DNG and work with that. I'm assuming that tethering, etc,. is of no interest to you at this point.
Maybe Canon users who are regular updaters should try to persuade Canon to come to an arrangement with C1 for easier and faster access to their new products? That might help you somewhat.

Affinity Photo is currently on sale for $25.00
If it supports 1DX3 now, I might just give it a try for that price! I'll be curious to see if a production 1DXIII file fairs better. (fingers crossed)
0 -
Ugh, well that was NOT $25.00 well spent. Yech.
I will say this, it fully supports the 1DX3, even shows the active AF points, but no browser (seriously, you need a 3rd party app to view a folder full of images to see which to open) and just the weirdest interface ever.
I hoped it would be better more useable than Canon DPP, but no, it's not. At least not as a RAW tool
0 -
Probably something to trial first?
What sort of results did you get for the images you used for testing? (Thinking about my earlier comments ...)
0 -
Jaketec, you should regard Affinity Photo as an alternative to Photoshop, not an alternative to Lightroom or Capture One. Like Photoshop, it can start with a raw file, but most PS users, I think, start with something else for their raws (quite likely LR). And the lack of a browser is also just like PS, isn't it?
