It's not entirely clear what you are trying to do. Are you working in a catalog or a session? If it's a session you can browse any folder without actually importing it. The thumbnail size can be increased with the zoom control, but the thumbnails are very low resolution, so magnifying them too much won't help.

I generally edit photos when I get to them and when I want to pick individual pictures to import from desktop rather than an entire collection the pictures are so blurry I cannot determine what to choose. Is this normal workflow or do I need to change some settings.

No, this workflow will not work with Capture One. You will have to change your settings :)

I do not necessarily want to import all the pictures in the same collection when importing from storage as i have 1000's of pics. Its become so inconvenient Im considering dropping C1 because its adding another step when I want to edit random pictures from my desktop. Thanks in advance.

The idea behind Capture One is that first it will help you choose your images, and rate them. And then you edit the best ones.

    One workflow is like this

    1. Import all your images into a catalog. If you import images using referenced storage, you can leave the files where they are. You are just telling the catalog "here are the files"
    2. Close Capture One's Viewer, and adjust Capture One's Browser so that images are a decent size (not all blurry)
    3. With the Browser scan through the images: You can either search for a couple of good ones, or you can go through a ranking process using rating and/or color code.
    4. Optionally, create an album in the Capture One's User Collections to hold all the images from one shoot, or the good ones.
    5. Once you find an image or you want to edit, by whateveer process, double click on the image and Capture One's Viewer will open. Edit away.
