    Hi everybody

First of all, just to clarify. This sub forum, is indeed for feature requests and will be handled by members of Capture Ones Social Media Team. We are monitoring the forum and when a request has been here for a little while then we forward it further and will inform when it's been forwarded.

We thank you, BinLafeng, for your feature request and for reaching out - it has been forwarded internally.

    Best regards,

    Jakob, Capture One

    Hi BinLaFeng.

It is maybe not obvious but this is a user to user forum, developers will nit answer you here, and support staff in 99.9 % neither.

For what purpose would you like to use C1? Manage your scans?

Let me tell you that C1 is foremost a raw file developer coming from digital cameras, with image editing tools which mainly work on raw files, you can manage your images (keywording, rating etc.) and output them to non-niche formats.

Tiff and DNG also can be consumed, and jpg if you really like. Windows bitmap files  (BMP) is not a good format for the internet, it is too big, jpg was invented for the internet. I did not know that social internet platforms even support bmp. So if social platforms are your reason you maybe reconsider your choice of format. Bitmap is good for... hm, Windows icons maybe?

what is the other software which does not support bmp "either"?

If you want to manage and also edit your scans then Tiff or DNG might be a good choice as your scanner output. In C1, after editing, you would output to jpg and share this with your ineternet friends. If you do not want to edit but only manage then C1 is maybe not the best choice.

    TGA I don't know.

But maybe I am missing the point as I am not a film photographer nor cultural heritage conservator.

    Regards

And maybe I am wrong with the assessment whether or not this sub forum is a good place to pass feature requests to the company, indeed the sub forum is called feature requests. In the past, feature requests would have to be sent by submitting a request (which you also can find linked somewhere above). But things change, if they only would tell us more...

    Hi Beo.

Thank you for your answers, my needs may seem strange, but in fact in my country, China (which is a very asshole-psychedelic country), social software is widely supported in the BMP format, and most importantly, it is lossless, so we can happily save each other nice photos.

I usually use C1 to remove the color mask for the film, I also use Fuji digital camera, I like the film simulation function in C1.

Film photography is my part-time job, and my full-time job is a 3d artist. My colleagues and I deal with a large number of pictures in Windows format every day. At present, there is no such software on the market that can support various rich formats and edit many pictures at the same time quickly.

Thanks again for your answer. I have sent the demand to the official.

    Regards

    BinLafeng

I must say I thought that the Feature Requests sub-forum was for requesting features too!

    It is. Why think otherwise?

I think BMP was a nice format but it's no longer (widely) used, especially not in professional applications.
JPEG, TIFF and even PNG are much more common right now and they have a lot of advances compared to BMP.

As others have already mentioned CaptureOne is mainly a RAW editor/convertor and as such its uses with other common file formats (like JPEG, TIFF or PNG) are very limited anyway so it would not make a lot of sense to use it for editing BMP files, even if they were supported.

I understand that in your country special requirements exist for social media software but I think that is not something CaptureOne would or should or could prioritize, even if there is a tiny market for it.

If all you want is to look at rendered BMP images and browse through them, you might want to consider using Adobe Bridge or a similar application and edit the images in Photoshop/Gimp.
If you want to share images on the web JPEG would be the preferred format anyway even if compression is involved - just as TIFF would be preferred when it comes to printing files and for storing lossless (or even lossless compressed) files.

BMP is a bit of an ancient format and not even Lightroom supports it.

Hi, unfortunately my ancient "Media Pro” will be no longer supported, so I need to move with my whole database to Capture One. Most of my medium format scans were made in BMP format back in the days. If Capture One would support this simple ancient format it would save me much time, bevor I need to convert them all in TIFF or JPEG.

Or you could use software like GIMP or Photoshop to convert all BMP images to TIFF or JPEG.

    @C-M-B

I've red the whole post. I know about how to convert files. I could do it via Automation, Scripts with Photoshop or GraphicConverter. I was even able to include most IPTC meta data. I also know C1, Lightroom and Aperture (RIP or better Hell thanks to Apple) was made to be RAW converter and Digital Asset Management software. At least Aperture was able to read BMP files. Because Phase One stopped the development of Media Pro which i used as my main Digital Asset Management, I want to move totally to Capture One – just missing a few known (ancient) formats. Adobe Bridge is only a browser and Photo Mechanic Plus is not ready for my need yet. I love Capture One and would love to see more Digital Asset Management capabilities. Once annotated and sorted into a folder structure it’s no fun to exchange all the files, just because a software can't read it. Why make it so complicated. if it's possible regulary update RAW files from new cameras, why not includes some "ancient" file formats;-)
