Crop bug?

    Simon,

This might seem a little ridiculous but given the intermittent nature of the problem described - have you checked you keyboard function?

If, for example, you were holding down a Shift key (on Windows but I think it's the same on Mac) and clicking to use the cursor to drag, C1 would think you are trying to create a new crop to replace the existing one.

Now that sounds like exactly what you are seeing although I fully appreciate you may not be attempting a new crop at all. A sticking key of something equivalent to that could produce the symptoms (and intermittency) that you have described.

Something to eliminate from the analysis.

Hi Grant,  thanks for your reply.

I'm not using my keyboard when the problem occurs.

I hit 'C' to crop, use the points to adjust crop.

I then put my curser in the cropped image, click on my mouse to move the crop to the right position and that is when the crop disappears and I have to start again.

    Cheers

    Simon.

For much the same reason  - try a different mouse?

The thing is that whether you are using the mouse or, in my case, a track pad - the keyboard keys are potentially still a factor. As are any mouse related functions.

So you need to eliminate the possibility that some seemingly entirely unrelated effect might be involved with the anomalous functional events you are seeing.

Unless, of course, someone else running a Mac has the same issues.

To find out it may be worth posting the same question in the Mac forum. It may sit better there then in the more generic and non-hardware related intent behind the "Common Photography Exploration"  section.
