C1 20.x will not autofocus the Canon 5D Mark4
Shooting tethered, ver 20.0.4 will not cause my Canon 5dmark 4 to autofocus.
The focus moves with the arrow next to the AF button, but the AF button does not work.
Has any one had a similar problem? What am I missing here?

Any chance that you have AF shut off on your lens?

The other thing that occurs to me is that there's a distance focus limiter on many lenses (assuming that you are using one) and if you are trying to focus long and it's set up on near, the AF may not function

It is not a problem that AF is turned off or that the minimum focal distance setting of the lens is incorrect.
It was working normally in version 12 of Capture One.0 -
Reboot the computer and try again.

I rebooted the computer but it was not resolved.

Can you try another camera/lens combination? I'm just trying to figure out a way to isolate the problem.
I just started messing around with tethering for myself using a 1DX and an older (non USM) 100mm macro. I was not convinced that it would work with the old AF in that lens but it turned out fine. It was a bit balky when the lens was WAY out of focus and I manually focused the lens to get it close. Then it was OK to use the tether/Live view AF to critically focus.

I tried the following canon lens.
EF 14mm f2.8LIIUSM
EF 16-35mm F2.8L IIUSM
EF 50mm F1.4 USM
EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM
EF 100mm f2.8 MACRO USM
EF 70-200mm f2.8L USMAF button is not working.

When you've got the camera and lens plugged in, the AF does not work. When you disconnect the same camera/lens combination, does the AF work when you are using the camera in a conventional way?

Of course, if I separate my PC and camera, AF button on the camera works normally.
Even if the camera is connected to a PC, AF button on the camera works normally when Capture One's live View is turned off.
Capture One's AF button does not work with Live View turned on0 -
I was having a similar issue with the 5DSR. After playing with the settings, I realized I had to disable back button focus in order for the live view [AF] button to work in C1.
Aka the shutter button half press must start AF + Metering.
Menu > Camera Tab > C.Fn3 > Custom Controls

Ahhhhhh! That's a smart fix!

I fixed a similar problem by changing the settings on the back of my Canon 5DSR
I found that the Live View was showing a smaller portion than the actual shot-preview. So I couldn't trust the live view for framing the object. The live View seemed as if zoomed in, even if it was set on "fit" or 0%.
C1 also started to not focus properly.
Then checked the back of the camera: I found a switch had been moved to the Video-live view option (icon a little video camera). Once switched back to the usual camera, C1 live view re-started working fine.

Aleksey Zozulya OMG you are a life saver!!!!!!! This worked for me finally :) Im on a 5D4 also and could not get the AF button to work in C1, yet the arrows to manually focus did work. As you suggested I turned off back button focus and not AF in C1 works perfectly. Thank you! PS Im on C1 v23.
