Keeping LR folder structure as I import to C1?
I am a currently LR user but have C1 and want to start working with it to see if I prefer it. I organize all my photos by year and month, so for example I have a "2019" folder and then 12 folders within it for each month of the year. Very simple and straightforward to me. I'd like to do the same thing in C1 - the original files will be the same files in the same year/month folders, and I'd like to have my C1 catalogs in the same hierarchy.
I know I can export a LR catalog to C1, but I am wondering what the best way to do this is, since I have 90,000 photos in my LR catalog going back 20 years, and want to keep my original photos where they are and make the process as simple as possible. If I want to be able to access and work on my photos the same way I do in LR, i.e, see each year, and then each month within each year, how do I do this? If I export say, my "2019" catalog from LR to C1, will it carry over my monthly subfolder heirarchy, or do I need to export catalogs by month to keep that structure?
Thank you,
Peter

I did a version of what Walter suggests when I switched from Aperture to Lightroom. The difference was I only re-edited images when I needed to to export a new version, make a different crop, etc.
I did something similar since switching from Lightroom to Capture One. I imported my entire catalog, but I'm mostly editing new images. I'll only re-edit older images that I want to re-export or change for some other reason.

Walter is right, do not try bringing 90k images at once or at all if not necessary. You will not need to continue your Adobe subscription. You can continue using LR to view, print, export and import new images. You will loose access to Adobe Cloud.
To start I would export a few LR folders as a new catalog and experiment with CO to see the results of the import and what you may expect when you start importing for real if you decide to do so. I am in the process of migrating from LR. What I have done is instead of exporting my LR catalog, I just import folders telling CO to leave the images where they are. For me, not having duplicate images was a clean way to do this. It also made it easier to investigate images not imported. I use LAB color profile often and CO will not import those (or any non-RGB I think). In that case you'll need to open them in PS and switch them back to RGB.
Since I have rated each image I have edited and those ratings come in with the CO import, I know which image will need re-editing in CO. Makes it very easy to see at a glance what I might want to re-edit. It's also a great way to learn the tools.

Great - sound advice. I will just import my 2020 photos and work with those and see how it goes.
Thanks everyone!

We are working on a software solution that will handle migration of Photos/Aperture/Lightroom libraries to CaptureOne. We set the bar quite high in terms of metadata and adjustments migration. We support a variety of options when it comes to deciding where the original masters go (copy them or leave them in place), etc... We fully support the replication of the folder/collections/collection_sets structure when migrating
Our migration for CaptureOne will be available in a few weeks from now.
